Football Rookie Cards
6 Attachment(s)
My first year collecting football cards was 1977 as an 8 year old. Let's see your favorite football rookie cards, they don't have to be HOF'ers either. I'll start off with a few of mine, can you tell I'm an Atlanta Falcons fan.........

My favorite FB RC ever:

A handful of my favorite players:
Snell - one could argue he was co-mvp of one of the early Super Bowls.... Anderson - he did win a Super Bowl MVP, but what I most like is once he got past the point of being a breakaway runner, he reinvented himself late in his career as a power back and found success - not an easy thing to do Foreman - the more video I see of this guy, the more impressed I am Bavaro - they say not to trust your memories from youth (especially when it comes to watching sports), but all I remember is this guy dragging would be tacklers along for the ride on what seemed like every catch |
1965 Topps "tall-boy" #133 Fred Biletnikoff RC (SP) This card completed my set, it's a tough card to find!
Larry <a href="http://s176.photobucket.com/user/larrytipton/media/filename-1-3.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i176.photobucket.com/albums/w185/larrytipton/filename-1-3.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo filename-1-3.jpg"/></a> |
1967 Topps #82 Wahoo McDaniel RC. As a gimmick, whenever McDaniel made a tackle, the PA announcer would announce, "Tackle made by...guess who?", which the crowd would respond, "WAHOO!"
Wahoo was respected by pro wrestlers and football players for his toughness, physical style and his crazy antics outside of the ring. His playing ability in football was often overshadowed by his wild lifestyle. Joe Namath and Larry Csonka, who played with him early in their careers, both printed stories about him in their autobiographies. Along that same line, Len Dawson has been quoted as saying "The hardest hit I ever received on a football field was by Wahoo McDaniel. Wahoo died in 2002, RIP Wahoo! Great cards! Do pre-rookie cards count? Here are a few of them for my favorite players from way way back.

'57
For sure! I'm still missing probably over half the set. The main/most expensive ones needed are of course the Bart Starr, Paul Hornung, Raymond Barry, and Unitas. It'll take time as i'm working on the '59, '71, '76, and '78 mostly at the moment with a little bit of the '72 set as well if i spot em for cheap.

Hey guys. This is my first time posting on the football forum. Here's a few of my favorite RC's. I have a ton more (I like mid-70's to early-80's) but just happened to have scans of these:
|
Nice Jason, those are the years that I collected football cards also, 1977-1984.
|
Nice cards. In very nice condition.

I mainly collect players from Texas and Baugh is probably my favorite.

Love those Baughs! I will own one some day.
|
Those are beauties Mike!
Of course if Baugh was really good he would have been able to punt and play defensive back too! ;) |

all very very nice.. I wonder whats the story on the Baugh cards. Why the two different shades of jersey? I've been eyeballing a couple but didn't see any difference in color.

HOF RC's

Great cards everyone!
I started collecting HOF QB RC's (and soon to be HOF'ers) along with a few other HOF players that I like. Do any of you know what is considered the best RC for Peyton Manning? |
Quote:
I can never remember which Manning is the best RC so I use this instead. Doesn't John Rauch look like Manning? Same number and uniform colors as well. http://photos.imageevent.com/ltsgall...John_Rauch.jpg jeff |

Thanks. I'll check it out. Those are all nice cards.. i like to collect rookies as well as sets.
i don't know about best, or re-sale value.. pulled this from packs back in the day.. i liked some of the scenes on the metal universe.. though i think i prefer seeing the action in the original picture. |
If I remember correctly the signed Playoff Contenders was always one of the most highly valued "pull from pack" rookie. There may be better ones but that one seems to ring a bell.
|
DanP i like your case.. i built one last summer but it's not large enough for graded cards.. and no glass cover(haven't figured out how to go about that)
