Almost completing 520 set, what next?
I initially put the T206 B/S/T
I am almost finished putting together my T206 set. Looking for ideas for what to start next? Want something prior to 1933, affordable in PSA 5 or better unless lower grades would be able to get in Top 15 in lower grades. Would appreciate your thoughts. Working on N28 (baseball only), thinking about 1915 CJs. |

Mansco,,,When and if I ever win the Lottery, I'm going to add to my 1915 CJ's.
I think they are beautiful! So far this is my only one. |
Stay with the T's...
Beautiful Wildfire, Mike...that is stunning!
Mansco, why not try the T205 set? Close to the price range of the T206's and only half as many cards. I'm contemplating collecting them eventually...very affordable. |

CJs are my most favorite sets and I finished my 183 master pose set this past summer adding the 1914s I needed. Its a lot of cards, none are cheap and the Cobb/Jax will run you $20k+ in psa 5. I know lots of folks refer to these as "common" but put together the set and will find the rarities including Rickey and other condition sensitive cards. I wrote this up if interested:

T205 would be a challenge that meets your requirements. M116 is a beautiful set but I think it is pretty tough to truly complete. T212 is a other fun one.

E107 set

what's next?
I'd suggest researching the history of each player exhibited on the cards until you know them so well that you can call John Thorn up and have a fabulous discussion. Then after researching the abundance of scholarship on the history of the making of the individual cards themselves, I'd suggest taking a look at the list of publications written by members of our esteemed board and read as many as you can get hold of. When you realize that you should now have the equivalent of an advanced degree in the T206 specialization, you might decide to be a type collector of vintage baseball cards. After doing this, you can research the history of each player exhibited on each....... you know the drill.
all the best in your unparalleled journey, Barry |
T205 is the logical next set to work on. Beautiful and still priced within reason are the 4 Obak sets- 1909, 1910 set of 150, 1910 set of 175 and 1911.

I think some of the nice looking sets like E107, E121-80 are practically impossible to complete since many cards in the set are so rare. If you're looking for a nice set that you should be able to complete over time, I think that the Cracker Jack set is probably still the best choice. Other ideas are:
(1) E95 (2) E93 (3) 1921 E253 Oxford Confectionary (4) 1926-29 Exhibits |
