1924 St. Louis Browns - i.d.?
Anyone know who the left-handed thrower is at the top of this ad? It's a 1924 ad and Sisler's signature is included, but I don't think it looks at all like Sisler.

holy cow.......I live and work in Delavan, Wisconsin..There is a store that has been here since the late 1800's named Bradley's which obviously had something to do with these sweaters. I will have to do some research

Can you do a larger scan of just his face? (or crop closer)

Wrong St Louis team, and a righty, but doesn't that look a bit like Rogers Hornsby?? I am at a loss on who on the Browns that could be. Should be Sisler, but agree there is no resemblance.

Thanks Lance.

I've got Tony Rensa stuck in my head, but he's neither the right team, city, or era :o

Just a thought, the large player does not have the same sweater on as the team. Are we sure it is a Browns player?
It is very obviously not Sisler. |
Jeff, that's a good observation. I was looking at St. Louis Cardinal images, thinking maybe they got the teams confused. Sisler did not actually agree that Bradley could use his image for this ad, and Bradley had considered using images other than the managers whose signatures appeared, but they were discussing 'better known' players. No one on the Browns was better known than Sisler.
The closest image match I could find on the Cardinals was Hornsby, but he threw righty. |
