Merry Christmas all, and thank you to everyone on this board, I am learning a ton. My father gave me this Williams 8x10 auto tonight for Xmas. I don't think it is good, but still learning and thought I would get some more expert opinions. Also came with a B&J Collectables COA from 1996, and very familiar with their reputation which makes me uneasy. Appreciate the help.

I would say if its returnable break it to him but if not I would proudly display it and remember it truly is the thought behind a gift especially this time of year! Merry Christmas!

Dealers who deal in that type of forged Ted Williams stuff are not inclined to offer refunds.

That total bull. You find out where you dad got this item. Get his money back and buy an authentic one. You will always no its bad and he got taken.

Had dinner with my parents tonight and talked to my dad about it. I didn't tell him it was fake. He said he was away at a conference for work and saw it in an antique shop, so he decided to buy it for me for Christmas. Said he only paid around $50 for it, so I don't feel too bad. That should have been a red flag, but he doesn't really know about thus stuff, even though he is the one that got me into collecting as a kid in the 80s/90s. He and my mom do buy me stuff from time to time from antique stores when they see it, but it is usually old programs, pins or something along those lines.

It's a common photo. Maybe buy an authentic one and have it framed up. This was you know it's real and your father will most likely not know the difference. That way you can proudly display it and your father will be proud as well.

If it's not practical to get a refund, then I like this solution.

Yeah, lying to your Father is always a great relationship thing.

One more time. Tell your dad the truth and get his money back. Then you can replace it with a real item. I am sure your dad would wont his money back and to make sure you have an authentic piece to show and remember him by.:mad:

Going to see my dad again on New Years Day, see if I can get more info out of him. Like I stated before, he said he bought it at an antique shop when he was away on business, so knowing my father, he probably doesn't have the receipt for the purchase anymore, or even know the name of the shop.

my first rule in this hobby: never let a family member buy something themselves. this hobby is filled with DIRTY and DESPICABLE felons...never never expose your loved ones to these scums. they try at every turn to rip off the hardened long-time collectors, imagine how excited they'd be with fresh chum. this rule goes for both cards and autographs...ymmv.

Why don't you just tell them to limit their purchases to autographs with JSA or PSA certs? I hear JSA-cert'd Heisman-winner autographs are pretty inexpensive and with the bowl playoffs starting Thursday, make great gifts.

Get them while supplies last!
