T206 Chase Blue Portrait - Broadleaf in auction
 

As I was licking my wounds from last night, in the Huggins and Scott auction, I noticed a nice price for this T206 Chase. I totally understand why, but it's still nice to see great card front/back combos bringing strong money. It was a great venue too :). (this wasn't my card nor did I bid on it)

I'm guessing it ended up in David Hall's collection.

I'm not complaining, I just hope that when I decide to sell my cards he is still driving up prices. :D

Tough combo although there are other, nicer examples out there. I had it at 3k-4k if Hall was involved.

it is funny..when we are the one bidding the new highs..when we are the ones actually selling...and there are no new bidders on the scene...just removing us from bidding on the card will make the chance of getting a bid over what you paid hard with buyer/seller premium ..especially if you bought the card within a year or 2....no not the mantle....if only we could clone...

I actually understand what you are trying to say, I think. It is true on limited audience cards that taking one bidder out can drastically change the ending price in auction. I live it every day. :(

I would lay 10-1 odds David won it...

right vintage card collectors aren't growing on trees....I just saw an auction where last week I would of bid for sure on 1952 topps psa 7s low numbers..bidding ended at 130 for all 3 cards....last week I bid for sure..and it goes up to 150...maybe whoever bid 130 would of also bid on it more and it goes higher...point is if I were to sell those cards at whatever I won them for.....they sell for 130 if no new bidders on the scene ..or maybe one bidding slot higher that I paid for them...and I eat the premium....


that's why people are usually disappointed when re-selling common cards within a few years ...theres no clone bidders of them.....

It may be the auction houses' way of saying, "Tag, you're it!" :eek:

I acquired my BLue Hal Chase from my ole buddy in North Carolina approx. 12 years ago.

At that time I believe it was a unique front / back combo. And, it was until very recently.

So, Hall got Hal.


Oh well......there are at least half a dozen of us on this forum that chase after Chase cards.

And, in most cases there are many Chase's available for all. Unfortunately, not so for BROAD LEAF's....HINDU's....LENOX's....DRUM's.

They say that the blue Chase DRUM has been confirmed. Well, my very first T206 was an OLD MILL blue Chase, which I acquired in 1981.

And, in the intervening 34 years, I have searched for this DRUM. Furthermore, this Chase DRUM has not appeared on any Pop Report.

Can anyone here shed some light on this mystery ?

Was doing a search on Hal Chase and came across this thread. That was my card and I remember that night as I was on travel in San Antonio, I think, and I was yelling at my computer screen, people must have thought I was crazy. I have another Hal Chase on Huggins right now, but a lot nicer and an Old Mill. Not too much action, not sure why. I think it was under graded by PSA as I crossed it over from a CSA holder from a seven, but I guess I should not complain. Anyway, a good memory for sure.
