THANKS - Got the advice I needed

As some of you know, I am in the market for a low-ish grade (G, G-VG, VG, VG+) Hornsby from the Diamond Stars set.
Right now there are four different ones for sale on eBay that all have semi-comparable prices ($115-135)--all higher than I was hoping to pay, admittedly--and perhaps semi-comparable conditions. I'm just curious if any of you might point to 1-2 of them as being clearly a cut above (or below) the others. (And naturally, if you have one even better for less, you're welcome to message me about it as well.) HORNSBY 1 (below) - Back of card not available at the moment. And note "Indianapolis" in cursive on front bottom border. I like 2,3,4. But 4 is clearly the nicest imo. However, I think you should consider being patient and waiting for one that you really like. Maybe also wait for an auction rather than picking between those four.

Not an expert or anything, but especially in lower grade I would tend to go with eye appeal above all else. I like the strong colors of contestant no. 2!

I would also go for color...based on the scans, either #2 or 4. A poor scan certainly can make a card look worse. I think #3 might be suffering from poor scan syndrome.

I would wait for an auction, but if you can't wait, I like #4 the best.
|
I prefer #4, with #2 a close second if you want a grade higher than 1 for paper loss. #3 has bad registration; makes it look like one of those 3D movies where half the picture is in red, and half in blue, but when you put the glasses on, it goes away. Too bad there are no "Hornsby glasses" to put on for that one... ;-)

4, no doubt.

I would wait for an auction. I've been in this position myself and invariably, about a week after you buy one of these, an auction will show up for a nice mid-grade version that winds up selling for less than you'll pay for one of these.
That's just my two cents based on personal experience. |
I like 2, but I agree with what's been posted above. You can find a perfectly nice one for a lower price if you wait for an auction; and it's a common card, so the wait shouldn't be more than a couple of months.

#4 looks best to me. If you don't like the price message the seller and see if they will work with you.

Thanks!!
Thanks to all for the advice. I got a great offer from a board member--one I think you all would agree is even nicer than #4. Will post to December pickups when it arrives.
