Private message emails quit working? Answer -
 

Since our conversion to a more powerful server a few days ago there are a few kinks we are working out. One of them is emails aren't being sent when members get PMs, as they should. Other than a few small admin issues I am not aware of any other issues. IF there are other issues (other than who the moderators are :)) please post about them and we will get them fixed/looked at. And one of my favorite early cdv's, circa 1869....(shown many times before but a few folks probably haven't seen it.) A help ticket has been placed with our Hosting Company.

Hi Leon - I'm not receiving email notifications of threads I am subscribed to. Not sure if it's upgrade related or not.

Any email issue most likely is the same as this PM/Email situation. It's actually any email from the board out, not just PMs, that aren't working. I think they need to reboot the server or something. I am pretty sure we will have it fixed in a day or two.

Yep. i wondering about this. I actually checked my settings to see if they had changed.
I was Pm'ing Bestdj777 and had a Pm pop-up later-on...but when i checked my emails..none of the Pm's notified me thru my email.
Glad to know i am not the only one and Leon is on top of things as usual.

I can't get any of my scans to download here lately. Every time it "says" attachment failed to download. Can someone help, and yes I'm a little brain dead on such things.

What kind of file is it....ie... .jpg .gif etc...? I don't believe a .tif or .pdf file will work.....

Was wondering if my normal PMs were working the past few days. I don't think so.

Pms themselves should be working. I am getting plenty. If those aren't working for you then you probably need to keep checking. If you can't get it going Rob, let me know and i will try to help. But I am not that great at system stuff.....

Just since the upgrade I had the same problem with pictures uploading. Then in a couple minutes I would try again and it would work. Figured it was just a temporary glitch.

Absolutely true. There might be some intermittent small issues along the way, for approximately two to three more days, anyway. I think once we get the email issue fixed it will take care of some small things that aren't perfect yet on the admin side too. Please keep reporting any issues. I have noticed, on the BST Auction section, that revisions & replies are both taking a minute or so to load, as compared to instantaneously in the past.

I haven't tried uploading any pictures as my current listings are still ongoing & I won't be starting any new auctions for a day or 2.

I have noticed some lag time too. I thought it was my own pc. We are working on the email issue and can see what that fixes when it's done and go from there...but yeap, that one too. Thanks Fred.

PM emails should be working now as well as any emails associated with our board. If someone will let me know for sure it would be appreciated. I don't get them on purpose so don't know.

I received a PM at 10:38, but no accompanying email.

It was supposedly fixed early, early this morning, I believe. So I need to know for a later today, from say 8am on, PM. The admin issues are fixed that is why feel confident it could be fixed HOWEVER I am still getting some latency on some of my posts......so I am not sure everything is fixed. Thanks Tony

UPDATE:

I sent 2 EMs & 2 PMs around 1 AM early this morning. I know from Andy that the PM went thru but he didn't get the EM. His PM reply to me @ 8:03 AM came back to me just fine.

The other auction winner I have not heard from yet.

Just making sure, so you DID get an email back from the system at 8:03 am, or you only got his PM back?

I only got the PM back. I got an EM from him, but it was DIRECT & NOT thru N54.

Just got a pm at 1:11 with no email notification

Thanks guys. This has happened twice before after work to the servers. Until they tell me it's fixed, which I just told them it isn't, then I don't need more feedback right now. Of course wisecracks are always welcomed (and even slightly encouraged :)) ....thanks for everyone's patience...

I want to give a quick update so members don't think they are going bonkers with respect to the outages on the board. What has been happening this morning, As far as I know, is there is some lag time in refreshing screens, there are pictures not being able to be uploaded (For me too as of this moment) and the emails from the system aren't working.

And an update from while I have been typing this response is they think they have it fixed. I am not sure yet :).

Wasn't sure if the problem was only those routed through PM but I wasn't getting through subscriptions either.

I am still not getting the PM's sent to my email. I get them on the site here, just not at my email address.

Several others ARE getting them so lets see if there are any others not getting them and I will report it. Thanks for the feedback...

Tony- we are keeping the email support ticket open with the Hosting company per your email issue. That being said, if a few folks could let me know, in this thread, if any emails from the system are not working which were working before our conversion several days ago, it will be appreciated very much? Thanks for any and all help and Happy Turkey Day too!! And because members will be baking today here are a few bakery cards. I saw the Chase out of the corner of my eye as I was leaving the National the last day, for the last time, many years ago. John Billingham (sp?) had it and we made a deal I couldn't refuse. Love that card.

I've always had off and on problems uploading scans in the past but eventually have gotten through.
It's been awhile since I've tried, and the past few days have been unsuccessful using 2 different browsers.
Keep getting "500 Internal Server Error".

Pm's now coming through

I am receiving email notifications of private messages. No issues here.

I am not getting emails from PM (including the one from Leon last night) or Subscribed threads still. Is this still an ongoing issue?

I have thought it was isolated incidents as quite a few members have told me they ARE getting emails from the system. So if anyone isn't getting them please post in this thread and we will get it figured out. The original support ticket was closed at my request but opening another isn't a big deal if we need to. thanks much

i sent ya a PM Leon the other day and understand the issue...I wasnt getting any email notification, but i do tend to visit the site almost every day. I use Yahoo Att.net
How about sending me a PM so often, so i know if/when it works.

I just sent an EM to myself thru N54 to test. It came thru about 2 hrs later.

Are you using ATT/Yahoo? I have some reports from others that their emails are working, albeit sometimes slowly. If any are working it usually means it probably isn't a systemic issue. Not always, but usually, in my experiences.

No. I use Juno. It is an archaic email system, but I was getting emails until just a couple of days ago. I don't get Private messages on a daily basis but in the last couple days I have gotten a couple but no emails.

Still seems a bit isolated. Let's give it another few days and see if anyone else has board email issues (other than Chris, who we know about)....LL

If it is isolated to my email provider maybe it will be the push I need to finally change the email over. I did that with my personal one, but not my hobby one because too many websites have the current email.
