Big Collector from New Jersey back in the 80's
There is a notice over on the ebay board from an Antique restorer that
had done some work for a "very famous" collector from New Jersey back in the 80's. He had wanted him to do some work on some Brooklyn Dodgers items. He couldn't then and can not remember his name. Any ideas? |
He could be thinking of Rosen.
There also was a very aggressive guy who used to go all over the states buying uniforms & memorabilia & advertisd in SCD---can't come up w/ the name right now. |
Barry Halper?
|
No, definitely not Halper.
|
Halper wasnt a big time collector from Jersey back in the '80s?

What is Rosen's reputation, in hindsight? Was he on the up-and-up?
|
There is an Al Rosen
or "alrosen" on COMC with over 10,000 cards for sale. He's still going strong, I guess.

Halper is the first name that comes to mind when you say big time collector in NJ from the 80s.

Big time collector = Halper Big time dealer = Rosen |

80's collector
Thanks, I will pass those on

Al Rosen or George Lyon?
|
There is something about having someone put $20,000, $30,000 or more in $100.00 bills in front of you when you are selling something!
|
I don't think of Alan Rosen as a "collector". Wasn't he fond of saying that the
only thing he collected was $100 bills? |

If you are in a tight spot seeing the cash in front of you always wins out against consignment and playing the waiting game.
It's the same reason people go to pawn stores when they're in tight spots and sell their items for half what they're worth if they waited for the right person to come along who wanted it. |
I think I recall the name---Steve Mitnick. I think he was a lawyer out of NJ & used to run ads in SCD for uniforms, rings, etc..
|
I was gonna say George Lyon or Herb Ross
|
al Rosen was who I was thinking of I think he was from Montvale.
|
I think George Lyon was from New York IIRC.
