Anyone use the new ebay Valet service?

Hi All:

I do not sell much on ebay. Just went to post something and the below page popped up. Never heard of it. Don't know how "new" it is. Have any of you you used this service?

If so what was your experience? Specifics would be appreciated. In lieu of that, anyone have any thoughts?

Fred

Dont worry, they wont sell anything thats:

Items in poor condition, items worth less than $40
Nothing torn, stained, broken, smelly, not working
So, i guess baseball cards are out of the question????

They're charging a 30% commission.

Just collect (and others) charge from 15-25%, depending on the value of the cards. And they know baseball cards. :)

They charge 30% but doesn't it cost you about 15% if you sell it yourself?
If so, they are only charging 15% to list, watch and send.
I would charge at least that to sell stuff for others.

Does anyone know what Probstein charges? I believe he is very low. Would much rather have a sports collectibles knowledgeable seller like him sell my cards than eBay.

Then again, for anything under $20 I just use COMC.com which is the same concept as eBay Valet, it sounds like.

Highest is 15% of final sale price (items closing under $20 I think) and lowest is 10% (over $2500), but he also covers the fees so he's really only bringing in 3% - 8%.

I have never seen a 3rd party "generalist" re-seller handle collectibles with any kind of collectible-specific knowledge or care. If the necessary information can be communicated with photos and they somehow manage to get the title accurate so that the item turns up in searches, they can sometimes do okay, but more often they are simply grindhouses for leftover merch with minimalist descriptions and no real knowledge of the items they are selling. Works fine for typical merchandise items where eBay already has a canned description linked to the bar code and they can simply fill in the item's condition and snap a few pics. Doesn't usually work so good for collectibles.

In other words, some of the best deals I have gotten on collectibles (more comic book-related than sports) have been from these types of sellers who don't know what they have. My feeling is, if it's a seller I like shopping with for good deals, that's not someone I want selling MY stuff so that someone else gets a good deal at my expense AND I get a hefty chunk taken out.

Original Question

Thanks for all of your thoughts/inputs/takes, etc.

But back to my original question? Has anyone used this service? From the replies I assume not.

If you have I/we would appeciate your take.
