1889 Uhlman Cabinets - Help with research
Hey guys,
I try not to take up space on the forum asking specifically about my cards, but I recently picked up an 1889 Uhlman Cabinet (Old Judge Proof) picturing George Bradley when he was with Sioux City and despite all my research I cannot find any other examples of other Sioux City Uhlman Cabinets online. All the research I've done says that Sioux City Uhlman cabinets exist, but I've yet to see another example. So I guess I have a couple questions for the community. 1. Does anyone have another example of a Sioux City Uhlman cabinet? 2. How rare are these cabinets? (I've only seen Uhlman St. Paul examples) Thanks in advance for the help! |

Here's a pic (sorry for the crappy cell photo)

Uhlman cabinets were done for Sioux City, St Paul, Minneapolis and Omaha. I have included a few examples, including a Sioux City.

Awesome!! Thanks for the info and the pic! I searched all over the place and couldn't find anything. I knew there had to be some on this forum. It seems that the St Paul cabinets are the most common of the Uhlman cabinets (based on what I've seen and the fact that they are in the standard catalogue), is that correct, or are all four similarly scarce?
And WOW, that Kid Nichols is incredible! |
Trey--I don't know the answer. I think Sioux City and St Paul are equally scarce and the other two are tougher. However, that is just from memory and not analytically determined. I think old judge proofs are an under appreciated area. Good luck if you decide to collect them.

Thanks Jay. Yes, the research alone is enough to keep me collecting them! I was amazed at the lack of interest and information out there. Such a rich history behind these cards with their ties to the local photography studios that supplied images for such an iconic set!
