For you Alan Rosen fans.------I also will be setting up at this show---I do the Greater Boston show which is also coming up later this month--but wanted to give this show a try. I have 8 showcases of PSA cards (1950's--1960's--Goudeys--N300 Mayos---Ty Cobb cards--Babe Ruth Cards etc.) I also have auto baseballs of Hall of Famers --all are JSA---I just purchased 5 complete baseball sets---1962--1963--1964--1966--1967--overall near mint or better--I will sell at low book---if anyone is interested, let me know on the sets--otherwise I will take them to the Boston show---thanks and hope to see Net 54 members at the show. Don

I will be in attendance, wearing one of the several Net54 T-shirts I now own. Whether you're a dealer or attendee, please tap me on the shoulder and say, "hello."
I look forward to meeting a few fellow board members there. And Ted, PLEASE let me know that it's you when we meet. I would greatly appreciate the opportunity to talk shop with you. Best regards, Eric |
Show?
Who is running this show? First time hearing anything about it?
|
The promoter is Fanatics Authentic (They took over the Chicago show) and did a show in the Boston area last April---they are also doing a show in Baltimore in the future---check their website--it has all the info---and lists the autograph guests for the Philly show. They do have free admission for all 3 days which is quite nice.

Seeing that I live right off of Egypt Road, I guess I might have to come by. And I thought the casino was close.

i would....

Interesting that Jimmy Spence will be there. I thought Hunt blackballed anyone who does the Oaks shows from his Philly show. That's why Levi has not been setting up at Valley Forge I thought. Is that what happened to you Ted Z.? I know you used to do the Ft. Washington show Will be interested to see if Jimmy is at the December Valley Forge show. Or maybe it's like the big banks during the financial crisis, they were too big to fail. Maybe Jimmy Spence is too big to ban by Hunt.!!?? |
I believe
Hunt allows the authentication services to do both shows just not card dealers.

My first Philly Show was in 1981 at the old Willow Grove Convention Center. In March 1993, the Philly Show moved to Ft. Washington. Circa 2008, this Show moved to Reading. I set-up at all of these shows during those 30 years. They were tremendous shows for me. I set up at the first couple of Hunt's shows at Valley Forge (VF). The cost of the booth was excessive. The action at the VF shows was meager (in comparison to the previous Philly Shows). And, I caught a bad cold when this show was set up in the damp basement level of the VF building, which is where it is now permanently situated since the Casino was built. There, don't you wish you hadn't asked me :) TED Z . |
Ted, I hope this iteration of the Oaks Show is more successful than the previous attempt to establish a viable alternative to Hunt's show.

Can any of the locals tell me how the advertising is for the show---With all the autograph guests, I would think there is heavy advertising in the papers etc. thanks, Don
|
Don
Last week I asked the promoter this same question; and, she told me that they are advertising the Show in the Philadelphia
newspapers and on the local Radio stations. TED Z . |
I am going today
I will be there today. I noticed show did not show up in the Beckett show calendar that is an oversight they need to correct for next time

Hi Ted--
I'm $ure I know why wip accepted the ad from the Oak$ $how promoter. |
I'll be there next weekend. Looking forward to meeting some of you guys.
|
I plan on going saturday or sunday - Looks like there will be a lot of signers.
Does anyone know how many vendors/tables will be there? i didnt see anything advertised |
I am setting up at the show---When I saw the table layout a month ago, it looked like 150-200 tables ---I know Alan Rosen and Levi Bleem (707) are setting up---I hope it is a good show, if the word gets out--hopefully good advertising----Loaded with Autograph guests---anyway , hope to see a good turnout.
|
As far as advertising, I wish they did a better job in general of advertising what was going on at the convention center here in Oaks. I live literally a mile away and generally have no idea what's happening there until the day of. They should have better signage along both 422 and Egypt Road. The only way I know about the show is because I belong to this board. I'll probably be rocking my O's cap Friday/Saturday at the convention center and/or at the new Buffalo Wild Wings this weekend.
|
I will be there Sunday. Going to get a johnny bench auto and do some card shopping.

New Philly BB card Show in Oaks, PA......Oct 17-19......Check-it-out
Here is the OAKS, PA show advertising that the promoters are distributing.
I don't read the Philadelphia newspapers; however, it's my understanding that they have placed advertising in them. Plus, several guys have heard the Oaks Show advertised on the Philly sports station....WIP 610 AM radio. http://photos.imageevent.com/tedzan7...owAdv25x_1.jpg TED Z . |
Can I buy auto tickets at the show or should I order online?

Hi
I will be stopping by on way to New York from MD visiting family. If anyone got Taylor/Hoy cards or deaf sports related. Feel free to text me at 718 954 1119. I look forward to see you all. I might be the one of very few deaf people in the crowd :)
Best, Danny |
I just got back from the show. I felt the attendance wasn't as strong as Hunt and most of the vendors were selling shiny stuff and auto baseballs. That said, I was able to pick up a N300 and shake Dan Marino's hand. As a Pitt alum, it's always fun to see him. With this being the first time around, the show has a lot of potential, just not as many choices.
|
I was at the show yesterday and was happy with the outcome. I got to meet the famous Ted and chat for a while as he had T206 Taylor waiting for me. It was the only Taylor I could find at the show. I got to pick up few cool sports uniforms for my son at really cheap.
The admission was free and they let me choose to meet a player for free so i went ahead and got Jenkins ticket and met him. He was very cool guy and signed my baseball with two inscription ( HOF 91, CY Young 71 ) I wish I could go back tomorrow to meet more Hall of Famers but couldnt make it Hope they will be doing another show in the area again. They will be doing another show in Chicago. I think it will be strong one. We shall see. Best, Danny |
Was at the show earlier today and as expected, the show was mostly focused on the autograph guests. From a dealer standpoint, lots of dealers selling supplies and modern cards. For the most part, I thought the prices for the prewar stuff was pretty good. Overheard quite a few people bashing the prices of 707, but the other dealers were quire fair on the prices. Unfortunately, I did not find anything in my collecting focus. With stronger attendance, I could see the show being competitive with the Philly Show, especially if some of the more well known dealers switch over.

New Philly BB card Show in Oaks, PA......Oct 17-19......Check-it-out
OK, so here are 4 vintage dealer's perspectives regarding this show............
Friday's attendance was rather soft....nevertheless, I had a good day. I sold two Old Judge's, a bunch of T206 HOFer's and commons, a complete 1952 Bowman set, and a good number of Phillies cards. Although it's tough to gauge the size of today's crowd since the Oaks showroom is huge, the show was quite crowded. Another good day for me, as I sold more T206's, a complete 1949 Bowman set, 1952 High #'s, and some more Phillies cards. Don (Donscards), Levi (707), Gary Nuchereno, Bob Snyder, and I were quite pleased with the show (so far). And, all of us concluded that it has the potential of being a pretty good show in the future. Furthermore, a very encouraging indicator was that quite a number customers who visited my table had already gotten their Jenkins, or Rose, or Schmidt autographs and were browsing around for BB cards. Instead of departing right after the signing sessions. Stay tuned....tomorrow is one more day at the Oaks show. TED Z |
Quick report on the show. I am very pleased. Nice turnout and collectors are buying. I sold a 1966 topps set. 59 starter set. 72 set. 1951 bowman PSA 2 mantle. 2 mayos. Nice assortment of graded cards plus auto baseballs etc. I met my goal sat. I will certainly come back to philly. I am off to the show now. It was very nice to meet Ted Z. We had a nice chat. Don

Line to get in
Is rather long and it's Sunday morning. Good sign for the show.
Just left the show, was a rather nice crowd for a Sunday. Nice mix of prewar, vintage, and modern at the show along with supplies and autographs. The dealers I spoke with told me they had a good show and would be back for the next go around. These dealers included Levi Bleam, Vic Stanley, Ted Z, JD Heckathorn, and AJ Firestone. I would definitely consider the show as it has a much more attractive rate than Hunt and it looks to be in a nice large well run facility. If they can get a few more national guys to give this show a try I think it could be a keeper. |
I went to the show yesterday and had the wonderful opportunity to meet Ted Z. Nice dealer, great person, and an authority on T206. Ted, it was an absolute pleasure to make your acquaintance, sir.
There was a decent mix of Pre-War, Vintage, and new material. My only knock against this show is that the athletes who were signing autographs were given the lion's share of the attention, from a promotional standpoint. Oh yeah, and there is one other thing. Apparently, there is a rule in place that prevents dealers from setting up at this show and the show at Valley Forge. Whomever is behind that buffoonery might want to rethink this strategy. It's not 1987 anymore. Promoters should be happy to allow dealers to fork over several hundreds (or thousands) of dollars to shop their wares. OK...rant over. Great show, and I will definitely return. Best regards, Eric |
Sorry.....
I couldn't have made the show! wanted to meet Ted Z:)
|
I hit the show yesterday & today. Had a good time & will definitely return. Free admission was a very nice change from the Philly Show.
|
glad show got positive reviews, but it was definitely heavy on the shiny cards and pre-autographed merchandise. there were a few pockets of pre-war cards, but very little vitnage memoribilia. i'm no fan of hunt's tactics, but the hunt show definitely fits my collecting interests much better. i left saturday pretty disappointed, but maybe if it was successful it will attract a wider variety of dealers next time out.

New Philly BB card Show in Oaks, PA......Oct 17-19......Check-it-out
First and foremost.....Thanks Danny Gabel, Glyn Parson, and Eric Perry for your very kind words.
I enjoyed chatting with 14 - Net54 members who visited with me during the 3 days at the show. It was a great show at Oaks, as far as I'm concerned. Sold, Traded, & Picked up some nice stuff. The T3 pictured here is the "highlight" of my pick-ups....thanks Don for the nice deal. Furthermore, my understanding is that there will be a follow-up Show here at Oaks in the future. I, and several of the dealers I spoke with are looking forward to this future event. Footnote..It is rumored JSA cancelled their commitment to set-up at this show due to the edict issued by the Valley Forge people. Several customers who were expecting to see Jimmy Spence were very disappointed. http://photos.imageevent.com/tedzan7...3Doolan25x.jpg http://photos.imageevent.com/tedzan7...Doolan25xB.jpg TED Z __________________________________________________ _________________________________ LOOKING for these T206 guys to complete my EXCLUSIVE 12 run of OLD MILL cards (12 subjects) .....
