Guidance/mentoring needed
I've collected cards off and on since 1954, but not autographs. I was recently given 40+ autographed baseballs. There are a few single-signed balls (Aaron, Mays, DiMaggio, Milton Berle), a bunch of team balls (many Brewers, 1953 Braves, 68 Tigers, etc.), and some balls that are interesting multiple-signed (one has Ted Williams, Nellie Fox, Sid Hudson and 5 others, another has Joe D and a bunch of A's, another with Aaron, Covington, Crandall, Buhl, Torre, Del Rice, and Ernie Johnson. Balls are mostly Cronin, MacPhail, Giles, Feeney, with a couple Brown and Selig.
The intent of these is to benefit the church I recently retired from as pastor. I need someone knowledgeable and honest to help me determine some names, determine if any are stamped or clubhouse signed, and determine the best way to market these for the church's benefit. We don't have to get ultimate dollars out of each, but have no desire to give them away, either. Who can I trust to do the above? . |
I would say post photos of them here first. There is a lot of people here who can help you out to see if the autos are real and can tell you who some of them are.

I agree. I've not collected many autographs compared to most but I do read about it here almost every day.
If you show some pictures of some and are up front and honest with your intent, as you have been so far, I believe all of your questions could be answered here including fair market value. How are you wanting to sell them? At an auction? eBay? Here on the BST? I think once you get the answers you seek and if they all turn out to be authentic then you shouldn't have much problem getting a fair value to help your cause. Good luck and keep us posted. Drew |
Okay, let's try this one. It's a Lee MacPhail ball.http://i855.photobucket.com/albums/a...pscba13592.jpg,

Let's also try this one. It's probably from 1956-1958, because that's when all these players were on the Braves' roster together. It's a Warren Giles ball.http://i855.photobucket.com/albums/a...ps382da918.jpg,

Here is a single-signed, on a Cronin ball.http://i855.photobucket.com/albums/a...psdd792253.jpg

The Aaron on the vintage Braves ball looks like a clubhouse but I kinda like the rest.

One more for today. It appears to have been signed by the American League team at the 1975 All-Star game in Milwaukee. Who are the two under Campaneris? Reggie and .....? Also, the two above Rollie Fingers? Jim Kaat and .....?http://i855.photobucket.com/albums/a...ps4006b329.jpg,

You have Munson there, that will boost the value quite nicely. One of the autographs under Campaneris is Yastrzemski.
|
Under Fingers are Del Crandall and Hank Aaron.
I don't normally say this to guys, but you have a couple really nice balls there. That last one with Munson should definitely bring good money. |
Above Fingers is Jim Catfish Hunter and Jim Kaat(?) . I can't see above Catfish well enough to be sure. There are a lot to identify but I will help as I can.
|
Not only is that a Munson but it is a very bold Munson. That ball could bring $600-800.

Under Campaneris is Bill Freehan
