Shoeless Joe eBay question... need help

I think I know the answer to this, but I am guessing everyone here would steer away from this due to not being in a holder?

http://www.ebay.com/itm/131260771108...%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

Really want to get a Shoeless Joe from playing days, but there are definitely red flags...
Any advice would be great and I do apologize if i am being redundant if this has been discussed here before. I am still very new to the baseball forum.

Thanks!

Leon mentioned it here http://www.net54baseball.com/showthread.php?t=191870 but there wasn't any discussion, so I'd say your post isn't redundant.

The "No holder" paper has N9 written on it...

Quote:

Q: What is a “No Grade?”
A: A “No Grade” is a card that cannot be graded by PSA for a variety of reasons. PSA will not grade cards that bear evidence of trimming (N1), restoration (N2), recoloration (N3), questionable authenticity (N4), altered stock (N5) or cleaning (N7). In the event PSA rejects any card for any of these reasons, the card will be returned and the grading fees are still charged as the determination to reject a card requires an expert review by PSA's authenticators and graders. PSA also will not grade cards that do not meet the minimum size requirement (N6), were miscut by the manufacturer (N8), or we do not grade due to being an obscure issue or not fitting in our holders (N9). Cards that receive N6, N8 or N9 results will not be charged the grading fee.
I don't see how it would get coded N9 and not N1... but who knows. If you're really interested in this card maybe you could call PSA and they could check the number on the flip?

i wouldn't trust this card as authentic...it's way too east to substitute any card in a rejected sleeve?

if u must have a reasonably priced jj from his playing days...you can't go wrong with a game card...imo.

Thanks everyone for all of this. This is truly a great forum and I appreciate not being made to feel like a tool for not knowing some of these answers.
I suspected a fake and am extremely leary of buying any card of this caliber that is not in a holder. Even if it was slabbed authentic in a holder I would be fine, but not with this. And thanks Pete for the advice on a game card. Not quite as nice as the regular issues, but also wouldn't be the only card I could buy for a long long time...

Pete is right on the money with the Jackson game cards. Good size, affordable and nice images of Joe. Was watching a grade 2 that was in very nice shape Barker game card that went for around 450.00 the other day. I like the game cards much better than the Play Ball and they can be had for around half the price. Overall, a pretty decent way to get nice J J item.
