Ethan Allen All Star Baseball Game

1 Attachment(s)
A friend purchased this Ethan Allen All Star Baseball Game as a gift for me. He picked it up at a garage sale for $5.00. I told him that I was very grateful but believed the game to worth more than he paid. I offered to pay him for it and he declined saying that he always wanted to get me something for my collection that I didn’t have. He succeeded. Although I have an eclectic collection I haven’t ventured into board games before this. The copyright date on the playing field is 1941, while the copyright date in the lid is 1942. I see that this game was produced for many years. I was hoping someone with knowledge of this game could tell me if this game is complete, help me date it, and provide an estimate on the value. Any assistance would be appreciated.

The game has forty brown backed player discs listed alphabetically below.
Appling, Bloodworth, Bouodreau, Campbell, Cullenbine, Danning, Dimaggio, Doer, Etten, Feller, Frey, Hack, Hayes, Heintzelman, Herman,Higbe, Hudson,Keller, Kuhel, Lee, Litwhiler, Lombardi, McCosky, McQuinn, Medwick, Miller, Mize, Moore, Nicholson, Ott, Reiser, Rolfe, Russo, Sisti, Suder, Tebbetts, Vaughn, Walters, Williams, White

The box is completely intact with a crease on the top of the lid as can be seen in the photo. The corners are not torn or separated, nor is there tape or writing on the box.

There are three spinners on the board

Four yellow pegs

Four single sided score sheets one has been used.

According to Board Game Geek your copy is 1955-63.

Thanks for the information. I found this site http://spookyshobbyshop.com/CADACO_a..._baseball.html this morning after I made my original post. For anyone who may be interested it has information including a list of discs that appeared in each year of the games production. Per that site this version was released between 1942-44. However it also says that the board from that year has one spinner not three. There seems to be a lot of conflicting information on these games. I doubt it has much value. But it was a nice gift and has been fun to research.

Hi Mike, swell gift. The box and board are definitely the 1941 edition, the game's first year of production
(the line of text above Allen's name on the lid, and the three spinners (actually two spinners and a dial)
on the gameboard are absolutely diagnostic).

The disk set is the 1942-43 edition. Bloodworth, Campbell, Cullenbine, Lee, Litwhiler, Sisti, and White are all unique to that set
and appear in no other edition (sorry, J, if BGG says otherwise, they're wrong).

Among the 1940s editions, there are further variations to the disk cardstock that can dramatically affect market value
for ASB collectors, but FYI, a 1941 edition with 1941 disks tends to sell for nothing less than around $150.,
and rare variations have topped $500. The 1942-43 edition can sometimes be had for as little as $30.-$40.,
but pristine examples have topped $300., with examples in condition similar to yours typically going for $50.-$100.

The Cadaco All-Star Baseball forum and e-list, despite Yahoo's mangling of the format, is still running strong
(almost 800 members) at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Cadaco...rBaseballGame/

That game has always been my favorite! What a great gift! The box design was just classic!

Thanks for the information and resource. The game disks are on thick brown cardboard and I learned that it has the Hayes two sevens variation whatever that means. Does PSA slab these;)?

Butch7999 07-21-2014 10:16 PM

Hi Mike -- the numbers on each disk's "pie chart" indicate a baseball result. The 7 indicates a single, the 14 a fly out.
One of the 7s on the Hayes disk should be a 14 -- it was a misprint by Cadaco -- so in the 1942-43 edition,
Hayes "performs" way better at the plate than he should. It was corrected in later editions.

We're not sure if all or only some of the 1942-43 disks were printed on the heavy brown cardstock and how much that affects
collectibility and market value, but check with the guys on the Yahoo forum and they'll have the answers for you.

I recently sold a 1941/1941 version of this game on ebay for over $600. I picked it up at an auction for a dollar...I believe it was the very first version of this game.

ONLY a 1$? what a deal. I envy anyone from the midwest to the east coast and your swap meets, garage sales, etc. Here in California since we didnt get major league baseball until 1959 we do not see a lot offered here. As a matter of fact when I sell something it's mostly to people back east. Great Deal on that game.
