1912 RPPC Burleigh Grimes at Hakes
http://www.hakes.com/item.asp?Auctio...&ItemNo=134762
I understand the rarity, but not the final price. Anyone here happen to win this? I thought I might have a chance at $1200 to $1800, sadly didn't happen. |
Grimes PC
Me too...I was the underbidder. I really couldn't justify going any higher. I had already had to justify the four bids leading up to my eventual submission.
Hard to pass-up on a previously unknown (at least to me) postcard that pre-dates his "rookie" card by 7-10 years. Let's hope another now surfaces. Love the composites w/ names. Those always sell for a premium. Congrats to the winner. So sad it wasn't me. |
That is an incredible price. About the highest I have seen for a RPPC other than negro league. Richard Merkin would have been ecstatic. Im happy for his wife Heather. He is perhaps my all-time favorite hobbyist and was one of my closest friends during the old days when we both lived in Manhattan. Everyone who knew him has a great Merkin story. Now THAT would be a great thread. Favorite Merkin stories.
