E93 Standard Caramel
So what's up with E93 Standard Caramel? Last time we had a thread about them was....well, quite some time ago (I don't remember when). This is kind of a neat pose and a card I have had for a long time. I am always a fan of big borders and this one doesn't disappoint. Would love to see others....
Another thing, I don't think it's been discovered yet how Standard Caramel cards were distributed nor am I aware of any packaging found yet? Maybe this thread will help enlighten me!!! http://luckeycards.com/pe93waddell.jpg |
Such a great set. I hope to add a Wagner at some point. My only E93 and one that is really difficult to find centered.

This was the first set I really tried to put together, still need a Plank and Cobb to finish it out. Tons of great images, loaded with HOFers and not terribly expensive either make this a great set especially for someone just starting to dabble in the prewar realm. In addition, the lack of any real rarities means it can be completed in a short time.
I'm not aware of anything related to the packaging, but the e93/e97 front back card in the last REA auction points to both those sets being printed at the same time and same place. I know I've posted this a few times in the past, but still one of my favorite cards. http://www.net54baseball.com/picture...ictureid=14718 DJ |

I love this set and have thought about writing an article about it but haven't gotten around to it yet.
JimB I love big borders and I cannot lie.... :) http://photos.imageevent.com/jimblum...hPSA9trans.jpghttp://photos.imageevent.com/jimblum...hanty.psa9.jpg http://photos.imageevent.com/jimblum...Brown.psa9.jpghttp://photos.imageevent.com/jimblum...%20PSA%209.jpg |
Wow, never get tired of seeing your set Jim!
|
Regarding how they were distributed, I don't think it is known, but they certainly were not directly in contact with caramel since it is rare to see one with caramel staining. I have seen a few from an original collection, but they seem to have been the exception rather than the rule, unlike 1914 CJ for example.

I really like this set. Was working on it for awhile before deciding I couldn't afford another Cobb and Wagner. Jim, that set of yours is incredible.

Seeing the best from the Nagarjuna scholar is such a joy.
many thanks, ole friend all the best, barry |
I am new to the E93 set so please forgive my naivete, but, are there color background variations like in other caramel sets? I.E. Does one have to buy 5 Cobbs in 5 different background colors to complete it?

Great set. The images really pop.

Outstanding Jim!!
The Leach & Pastorious holders scare me :o |
Great set Jim. Surely one of the finest collections of ANY baseball card set ever compiled.

No true color variations like you would see with the e98 set. Occasionally, you'll see a card that's normally yellow/gold such as the Gibson or Evers, turn up with color "over-saturation" and the background ends up being a bright orange color.
Here is the e93 Dooin with the upside-down e97 back that someone mentioned previously. A card link this is evidence of a pretty close link between the two sets in my opinion. Also, similar to how there are no duplicate players between the e95 and e96 Philadelphia Caramel sets....there are no duplicate players between e93 and e97. Attachment 152762 Attachment 152763 |

I am working on this set in low to mid grade. Really like the color and images and has a great selection of players. Here is my best...

Hey Dave, I got one of those too:eek:

There are no color variations like E94 and E98 have, but there are errors where a color pass is missing. I will post later when I get to my computer. I'm posting from my phone right now.
Thanks for all the kind words guys. JimB |
Brian,
That is an awesome and super important card for cluing us in on the relationship between E93s and E97s. Here are a couple of missing color pass variations and a miscut back. Hey Paul,
Funny how similar your card and mine are. Looks like mine was taken before Honus got shot in the chest ;) |
Great caramels, everyone!
