Joe Dugan Bat ID help
Hello all,
Among the items I found digging through some stuff is this bat. It is 34 1/4 in long and 34oz. It's an H&B bat with a Joe Dugan script signature. I took a bunch of pictures for you all to see. Can anyone help me Id'ing the bat? Could it be player issued or used? Is it a store model? I could use advice regarding the tape around the middle. I got it that way in the 80's and have never removed it. Should I remove it? Given all of that info, can someone give me any ideas regarding value? Thanks, Mark http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...u/Duganbat.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2.../Duganbat2.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2.../Duganbat3.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2.../Duganbat4.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2.../Duganbat5.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2.../Duganbat6.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2.../Duganbat7.jpg |
That has all the markings of a 1928-29 game model bat! Very nice!!
I never touch tape jobs, but will let others chime in. Ken |
Very cool.
Thanks Ken. |
Oh, wait! I didn't look closely enough! It's a store model, I'll offer you $20 for it!;)
|
Well. I've already had 2 people ask if I was selling it, so I'll have to pass on your offer. Any ideas as to value?
Also, does anyone else have any other information that could help? |
That's a great bat Mark -- definitely looks like a gamer. I would not touch the tape -- if you're going to sell it, let the buyer make a decision on that once he has it.
I haven't seen many Dugan bats, and he is highly desirable because some people specifically collect bats of 1927 NY Yankees. I'm going to go with a wide price range, say $2,000 - $5,000 (my focus is HOF bats, so please don't take that as a definitive answer). But if there are two '27 Yankees collectors out there who really want it, who knows??? Greg |
Greg,
WOW. Really? Not what I was expecting at all. Thanks for your input. Mark |
Mark -- Again, I could be way off, because I really only follow the prices of Hall of Famers. But in my collecting travels, I know that '27 Yankees command a nice premium, and Dugan was a star, and I believe his bats are scarce.
I certainly don't want to give you unreal expectations. Greg |
Greg,
I had no real expectations of it even being a pro model bat, much less a gamer. I'm just looking to get some info, prior to deciding if it's something I want to let go of or not. I understand your qualifier statement and am hopeful that you are correct, but am cautious to not go too crazy. Mark |
I emailed John Taube last evening.
He feels it is a pro model Dugan dating from 1928-30 His valuation is narrower than Greg's but in the same ball park. To all those interested, I didn't post it to sell it and I haven't decided if I will or not. |
