Mello Mints - 2014 Panini Golden Age Mini Parallel Cards
 

I don't keep up with modern at all, but this new set popped up in my searches. Apparently it released today.

"There are still plenty of other parallels, only these are tobacco-sized mini cards. They come with seven different back styles: Hindu Brown (1:3 packs), Hindu Red (1:8 packs), Mono Blue (1:4 packs), Mono Green (1:6 packs), Croft's Swiss Milk Cocoa (1:24 packs), Smith's Mello Mint (1:48 packs) and Panini Logo (1/1)."

"The product is rounded out by both box toppers and box bottom cards. Every hobby box comes with either a 5 x 7 Box Topper that features someone who isn't in the base set or a perforated three-card Darby Chocolate Panel. 5 x 7 cards also have randomly inserted memorabilia parallels that are numbered to 50. Every hobby box also has a three-card panel printed on the bottom of the box."

I can't help but cringe a little to see my beloved Mello Mint back defaced with a Panini logo, but maybe it will get the kids interested in prewar.

I saw that the other day too. Good to see a little recognition for such an obscure set.

I'm actually doing the master mini back set of these, 900 cards in total. The Cocoa's are one per box (24 packs), falling 20 per case, and the Mello Mint's are one per two boxes or so, falling about 10 per case.

FYI, I am at just over 800/900 total cards, with 90+ of the Mint's in hand or incoming.

I agree! I find any new cards featuring old candy tobacco brands on the back cringeworthy. It just doesn't make any sense really?

Might not make sense, but it makes dollars. Sorry for the pun. I think the manufacturers are really smart to do this as they get some new people interested in old stuff and they get some vintage collectors to buy new stuff. And.....they're out of great new ideas, so re-freshing stuff is much less costly than coming up with fresh new stuff on their own. Witness the success of the Topps Heritage series from 2001-present and the Topps 206 and 205 sets, the Allen Ginter, etc. It's kind of a 'cant miss' for the manufacturers I think. Some are cool but they all feed the lottery mentality of todays new card collector looking for those 1/of cards that are one per box, one per case, etc. Still.....some are quite neat and they've done nice work on many of them in terms of artwork/etc. The A&G stuff not only has the small cards but also the N43-sized cards as well as larger cards that are patterned after A&G Album pages. I have a few but work diligently to NOT spend money on opening wax--even as fun as it is. I have been putting together Topps Heritage sets for a while though.......
