Building a raw 1959 Topps Newbie ?
I am at the beginning of collecting a 1952 Topps graded set, but my fingers are itching to get a 1959 set as well (one of the best designs ever in my opinion).
My wallet can't afford trying to do 2 graded sets at the same time so I figure I can start the 1959 set raw and it won't ding me too much. Any pointers or insights on what to look for when doing a raw set, specifically for 59? I get that it's ultimately going to be up to me, but figured it was worth asking to get pointers from those that have done it. Thanks in advance! |
1959
First set I ever finished and thus a sentimental favorite, but built long ago so not much help on current strategies for building one today.
Here is a good thread from CU on the 59 set http://forums.collectors.com/message...hreadid=508770 Sullivan front variations http://i1267.photobucket.com/albums/...ps2c95bf31.jpg Sauer and Porterfield variants http://i1267.photobucket.com/albums/...ps8d05a1a7.jpg Ramos and Hitting King variants...and Sullivans back variants http://i1267.photobucket.com/albums/...539/img118.jpg Odds and ends http://i1267.photobucket.com/albums/...psd1a28e43.jpg http://i1267.photobucket.com/albums/...539/img034.jpg http://i1267.photobucket.com/albums/...539/img306.jpg I did just finish putting together cards 199 to 286 in both gray and white backs trying to complete a master set. The gray backs tend to be a little more expensive Also, see this thread http://net54baseball.com/showthread.php?t=189832 |
Awesome - thanks so much!
