Ugliest Beater of a HOFer in your Collection
Figured I'd share this space filler while I still had it, as it is high atop my list of cards to replace in my near 33 Goudey set.
<a href="https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/MGK4qYAYe2_bBd6_rgDVicVoo7wO8BPeGSO7FNPxJt4?feat=e mbedwebsite"><img src="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-M3RaATuQ0Jo/U6jOBYoME7I/AAAAAAAAggM/qQC89UQHhdg/s800/187_Manush_RAW.jpg" height="800" width="637" /></a> Got me to thinking, what other HOFers are out there that have been more than just "well loved" but downright abused.... |

I think Waddell and Bender both take first place. Manush and Cobb are a "Ty" with Ruth a distant third.....

Has that Bender been lunch for a mouse? |
Mike: Mouse damage for sure, purchased this card at the National 2013 Chicago $7

The sharp eyed viewer will spot (pieces of) a Bresnahan, Huggins, Walsh, and Cy Young in this group.

this thread
is great!! since I collect scrap, my eye has become accustomed to the more "well loved" cards out there!:D even the beaters need some love:)

This is my worst
After all, my collection is pristine.

I swiped the image from eBay. if it belongs to a board member, I apologize.) |

And one for the non-T206 lovers out there. Super rare card, actually...I believe there are only 2 others known to exist.

Shown before but I don't have a lot of beaters....

Before he was iced, Ted had some interesting treatment of his borders.
http://www.collectorfocus.com/images...topps-williams This 1 of 1 is the only known 1955 Williams card with Preston Ward borders:eek:. The quality of the workmanship of the re-edging process makes it very difficult to detect without a loupe. ;):D It is unknown whether a Preston Ward card with Ted Williams borders exists, but one would think.................................... |
Forgot I had this one in my graded cards box

In comparison to the other "incredible" cards already shown in this thread, this Sam Rice rookie could be considered "Near Mint!" :)

I know these are not pre-war (my pre-war beaters aren't HOFers), but here are a couple of beat up post-war cards:

Hey guys, sorry for bringing up a slightly older post but this one appeals to me and I can actually participate in it. I've been out of the loop for a little while and am catching up a bit now.
Here is a T213-2 Coupon Jennings that resides in my collection. Enjoy. AndyH . |
Pretty cool. Sort shows what the card has gone through the last 100" years

I would not call it ugly, but technically problematic due to hungry mouse. What can you do when there are only two known examples?

the comically bad cards are pretty much my specialty. Picked this WaJo up from Rhett a few years back. Photo's just don't do it justice. I have plenty of other bad ones too. Just not many photo's on my comp at the moment..
|
I guess I'm in the minority in that I do not collect low-grade cards at all.
I do have a few raw cards that I will someday upgrade, but the lowest graded cards I own are a 1888 N162 King Kelly SGC-40, a couple of 1915 CJs, and a Leaf Virgil Trucks. |

.....we all have our dirty little secrets .....PS does the Traynor look legit to those of you who know that set ? ...the corner-rounding looks like what the counterfeiters do-- it seems too uniform ? |
Even though it is a rough one, it is still one of my favorites!!

I have a few very low grade Ruth's but this is my roughest.... WaJo scan is a little blury but you get the idea, something was hungry...

Hey...it made it this far (80 years), so I guess I won't throw it out. By the way, the scan on the left is of the front of the card (the scans of the same card, just different scan image size).
I usually like my Hornsby cards with a little better visual appeal. Brian |
Well that didn't take very long -- but the Manush is no longer mine, sold off in favor of this nice clean copy:
