BST & Live Auction Etiquette on Net54baseball
Hey guys
I was watching over in the live auction (BST) section of our forum and noticed there might have been a bid retracted in an auction. While there are no rules concerning that folks shouldn't be retracting a bid once it's placed. If there is an extraordinary issue (like a mistake) then so be it but in general bids shouldn't be canceled or revoked. I still don't want any hard written rules because I hate rules. Suffice it to say if you retract bids you will lose your privileges in that area. I need to get involved in BST transactions very infrequently (probably less than twice a month) so everyone seems to be getting along fine over there in general. ALWAYS over-communicate and treat people the way you want to be treated. Act like adults. Thanks and carry on.... |
A second price sealed bid auction or Vickery Auction is essentially how eBay operates. The price paid is determined by the second bid plus the increment or overbid, whichever is less. An overbid by the same bidder does not mean that bidder pays more if there are no other bids. He is merely raising his MAX bid if you will.
However, that is not the way that our traditional BST auctions operate. Every bid is open for all to see. The auctions are first bid auctions, sold to the highest bidder for the price of the highest bid. Retracting a highest bid after the auction is over should not be condoned by any seller. Any variance from the first bid open auction model by the seller should be clearly stipulated by the seller in the original post or listing. I have done this on occasion without a problem, but 99% of the BST auctions are intended to be sold to the highest bidder for the amount of that bid. Bidding errors should be rectified immediately and not after the auction is over.;) |
Frank- I agree. Changing a bid after an auction is over should not be done. If anyone does that then I hope I get a PM about it. Depending on the issue a warning/infraction or suspension will be given for that.
Overall, I think the BST is great and is used in accordance with what everyone wants. I am on other forums with a lot of rules and that just isn't something we want, I don't think. I would rather get rid of rotten apples and keep the members that want to act professionally. This is not other forums or ebay and we will protect our own. Caveat Emptor as always.... |
