Centennial Auctions

I got my shipment from Centennial Auctions last week. The auction ended on Monday, I paid Wednesday and I got the cards on Friday. They had really good service and were easy to deal with. Kudos.

However, I did laugh when the package arrived. Not only is 25% of the box's top plastered in stamps, three full sides are covered as well. I don't know ... maybe they haven't heard about Forever stamps yet.

My dad collected stamps in the 70s. Eventually became worth only their face value so he used them for postage as well. Stamp collecting died ( try going to a show and finding a collector under 70) and so did their value.

It's common on eBay to purchase stamps for a fraction of face value. For example you can buy $500 face value of stamps for $400. The seller may have done this or he sells stamps also and realized it's better to use the stamps as postage rather than trying to sell them.

Yep, Most stamp dealers use that stuff for mailing. Even older stuff if it's got problems.

I'm not sure stamp collecting is dead, at least in our area. Plenty of people middle aged, and a few kids.

But nearly everything since the 30's was saved in huge quantities so most of it isn't worth much.

They seem to be mostly coin and stamp dealers. Makes sense the stamps were probably worth more as shipping than collector value.

If only the post office would accept an '87 or '88 Topps card as postage.:(

My shipment from them came from the UPS store with not one stamp, just an inflated shipping cost, a very inflated shipping cost, 6 times what my local post office said it would have cost at USPS.

Yeah I think they got a lot of complaints about that. When I called, they gave me an option of UPS or traditional postal service.

Stamps on box!

I got many a package from old timer Goody Goldfaden covered with stamps. Probably took him more time to lick the stamps than putting my items in the package! Sam Majors :) :) :)
