I want to show you guys something. I've had this thing since 1988, when a buddy of mine was organizing an estate sale and auction. The lady who owned the mansion ( and it was a mansion, a traditional southern plantation headquarters, complete with slave quarters and the whole nine yards.) I'm not sure what here relationship was to this gentleman, but the front has his name on it,Fay Murray. His name is also on the season passes that were and still are inside. It's obviously a Commemorative Anniversary pass holder from the Brooklyn Dodgers organization. The passes are from the Nashville Vols, which in 1950 were in the Cubs system. At any rate, I haven't seen one since, and I thought a Brooklyn enthusiast might be able to shine some light on it.

Fay Murray was the owner of the Nashville Vols. They were a Dodgers affiliate from 1938-1940.

The piece you've presented is quite fascinating, to say the least. I wish I could shed some insight as to what it is you have there. But rest assured, if there's one place on the internet where you could find out what that is, this is it.

The 1944 Nashville Volunteers were the Class 1A minor league affiliate for the Chicago Cubs. The Volunteers were a minor league affiliate for the Brooklyn Dodgers from 1938 to 1940.

Thanks guys! I wish I could find out the history between Mrs. Caldwell, and Mr. Murray. I also have some hickory shafted golf clubs from the auction. The executor of the estate told my friend who was a real estate agent, that any thing that wasn't nailed down, we could keep. I remember finding about three original Haskell golf balls, which were the first balls to have dimples that were manufactured,as well as one Gutty, which looked like it had been sat on for 100 years. However, I've somehow lost them, which sickens me because vintage golf balls and guitars are the only thing I'm interested in.

I've had some inquiries about selling the pass holder over the years, but I really have no interest in selling it, especially not knowing what it's worth. I realize that something is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it. Where would a person go to have something like that appraised?

Ted Murray
 

Ted Murray was owner of the Nashville Vols from the 1930s until his death in 1941. His family continued to own it until the late 1950s.

His great-grandson still lives here, and will be happy to know this item exists.

I'm not sure of the connection between the Murray and Caldwell families, although there was a Caldwell father-son who owned some portion of the Vols beginning in the 1920s.
