Sometimes I guess ya take the good with the bad....

wolf441 05-24-2014 11:34 AM

I'm the complete opposite. I'd much rather have a card like that which is pristine except for the pinhole than a creased up card with dinged corners that would get the same technical grade...

That card is a beauty Leon! :D

and it's kind of cool to think that the card was probably pinned up on some kid's wall 100 years ago.

ullmandds 05-24-2014 11:44 AM

nice! so I take it the pinkerton cobb comes in 2 poses...that one and the more common e98 style pose?

Heritage sold this type T5 Cobb earlier this year SGC graded, and mentioned there was another in a PSA holder, but this is the only one I have been able to uncover. I am sure there are probably more. The Heritage Auction one was an SGC AUT that went for a bit over 19k.....

darn pinholes....

Leon, you have to embrace the pinhole! That's an incredible looking piece made available at 10% of its normal price because of a few tiny little holes! Sign me up for a card like that every day of the week!

I wish I had paid 10% of their probable value for them. But it will be fine. This one doesn't have a pinhole but has 2 small tears...

Agree wholeheartedly!

Was this the one in the Heritage auction? or is this a different example which was not that one nor the PSA graded copy.

And, when you bought the item, was it properly described or do you have recourse?

It wasn't the one in Heritage and I don't need recourse as I am still going to be ahead. I just didn't realize two of the three had the holes. All things considered they still present nicely and were a nice bargain (not a steal but a good bargain). I have no buyers remorse whatsoever.

Nice Leon,
Were they all from the same seller? Was wondering who got the Cobb.

Yes. After a few days and no bids he responded to an email asking if he would take an offer on the Cobb before there were any bids. He then told me he had two others and I ended up buying all 3, with the help of a board member, and eventually won the Clarke from him on ebay too. There is still good stuff on ebay.

Bicem 05-24-2014 04:23 PM

You're lucky he didn't hold to his promise to give me a chance to match any off-ebay offers, could have cost you some money. :D

He also told me he pulled the auction to have the Cobb graded.

I forgive his lies though, all part of the game that is ebay. Really nice pickups, all of them!

I just asked ....wasn't my fault. Sorry if he told you stories. Once he made the deal it might have been awkward for him to answer emails I guess. I dunno.... He didn't give them away...but yes you could have cost me money and I wouldn't have blamed you. You never know how these deals will go. We have all been there...

barrysloate 05-24-2014 05:48 PM

Hi Leon- congrats on the pick up. The pinhole only affects the technical grade, those are still amazing cabinets. But I don't think you realized they had pinholes before you bought them. Still a very good purchase.

HRBAKER 05-24-2014 06:13 PM

Beautiful cards regardless.
Nice pick up.

Vintagecatcher 05-24-2014 07:41 PM

Congrats Leon!

Congrats Leon on your nice Pinkerton T5 cabinet pickups.

Leon: VERY Nice pickups rare cards and I would not have cared one bit about the pinholes on cabinets 20 years ago but TP Grading changed the market significantly. so it's ok to love the cards and HATE the pinholes

Leon 06-03-2014 02:50 PM

Well, the pinholes sucked for technical grading but that is the way it is. Buy the card blah blah and blah.......still very happy.

The key is whether you got white flips.

ullmandds 06-03-2014 03:16 PM

Exactly Pete! The white flips will make up the lost value from the pin holes!!!

ZachS 06-03-2014 03:21 PM

No green border = subtract 25% off the value

I told them I don't really care. I am quite sure I will get the first generation of new flip without any green border. I am good with it. I know others like the green border a lot and I respect that, especially for continuity.

Rickyy 06-05-2014 12:26 AM

That's a beautiful pinhole! :D

F#@%

They did not pop in my search or you would not have gotten any of them. F#@% F#@$ F#@$. And they would not have been available for a long long time.

Pinholes?

Pinholes? Don't talk about pinholes. Are you kidding me? Pinholes? I'm just hoping we can win a game, another game. (Said in my best Jim Mora voice). By the way, I love this card! So much character when you see it in person.:D

You have to be quick in the wild west that is eBay.
