That is fantastic. Thanks for sharing.

What an interesting film! Thanks for posting the link. I loved the scoreboard with a hugh crowd watching dots going from base to base. And they were ahead of their time to take an airplane and fly over the park. I guess now everyone is going to have to try to point out where Joe Jackson appears in this footage!:D

Here's another link to the video at si.com. It gives a bit of the video's history.
http://mlb.si.com/2014/05/02/watch-1...hite-sox-reds/ Here are the basics: "The video was shot by a British newsreel company named Pathe News and was discovered in the archives of a Canadian library by a White Sox fan trying to make a documentary about lost films. The film of the series ended up in the Canadian Yukon and was then consigned to a basement of a local library. In 1929, the film, along with hundreds of other cans of footage, was dumped into an empty swimming pool that was being converted into a hockey rink. The films lay preserved below the ice and dirt until 1978, when the rink was bulldozed and the cans were uncovered. From there, the films were sent to the Canadian national archives in Ottawa and remained in storage there until filmmaker Bill Morrison unexpectedly found the 1919 Series footage in January." Steve |
Pretty cool but I would rather see a film of the 1921 World Series

I've watched this a few times now. Incredible!

Very interesting video. Items that I found interesting include . . .
All the smokers! How active the umpires were Players taking aggressive lines around the bases Aerial view, can see plane's shadow Love the crowd gathered 1000 miles away watching the game Amazing story on the films journey through the years. |
Thanks for posting, very enjoyable.
The first thing I noticed was the amount of smoke in the air coming from the crowd. Times have changed!!! RC |
I'm confused about this being such a big deal - a lot of the 1919 world series must have been filmed, given that a film documentary of it was being made as it was played. I have a still of actual game action that was used in the film. Was the documentary lost?

As long as I've succeeded in killing this thread, here is the still I was talking about - if interested, read the slugs on the back.
