Easy mistake, putting the decimal point in the wrong place, I'm sure he meant $1.85, not $185.

He ought to cut it up into little pieces and sell them to Topps so they can include them on "relic" cards?

h2oya311 04-18-2014 02:03 PM

With a dollar bill, if you have more than 50% of the original bill, it's still worth $1. In this case, the headless Lou will not retain the value of a whole Lou. I wonder what the other 40% of the card might fetch?? Would a TPG authenticate 40% of a card??

Eric72 04-18-2014 02:04 PM

Quite the overzealous trim job. :D

frankbmd 04-18-2014 02:21 PM

After this sale, he will be selling the rare Gehrig portrait card.

D.P.Johnson 04-18-2014 02:30 PM

$185 bucks and no head? Sounds like date night with the 'lil woman...:(...

Tony frequents this board and is a great guy. He has helped me several times - both in selling me needed upgrade cards, and (more importantly) providing sound advice on expected pricing and strategy for set building.

I saw the card a couple of weeks ago when he posted it on his site and was interested to see what the price would be. I am sure that it wasn't easy to put a sticker price on as it takes poor to a new level. I am confident of a couple of things - 1.) If someone has a reasonable offer slightly above his wholesale cost, he will take it because he is all about turning inventory and 2.) His pricing is as competitive as any that I have seen.

I have never met him. He doesn't know me from Adam, so I am not an advertisement for him. But, everytime I send him an email asking a question he takes the time to respond with quality information - even if it doesn't involve a purchase from him - sort of the antithisis of the B&M guys that John and company were talking about in the other thread.

I laughed hard at this, and then started to cry when the truth of it hit home...

Me too!! Classic!

Hard to put a value on a card that degraded. I mean, after all, his name and his head are both missing!! In my opinion, it has as much value as the card that "might" have touched the T206 Wagner card!

PS - He states the card is #92 instead of #160. How does he know? The number is missing as well!

Maybe the part of the card that had the head came back to him in a dream or a kind of out body/register experience.

Tomman1961 04-20-2014 07:35 AM

Think the head is in a bicycle tire spoke? Still stuck on with the clothespin?

Paul S 04-20-2014 08:03 AM

I think it's the rare cryogenic Ted Williams. Separate the head and drop and crack the skull on the floor:eek: Then wait for technology to catch up -- the card should be whole at some point in time -- then it will be worth the price.

Leon 04-22-2014 07:26 AM

Lou is feeling a bit light headed is all....flesh wound!!

thisisradioclash 04-23-2014 07:13 AM

The top edge is a little rough... :)

dabigyankeeman 04-23-2014 08:10 AM

Maybe his head is with Ted William's head......

Give me the rim shot before my response.

For my 2001 post on Net54:

They say two heads are better than one.

:o

phlflyer1 04-24-2014 04:43 PM

Hmmm,

I wonder if I should hit the BIN on that one and add it to this "Beheaded" card from my collection... Could be the start of a whole new collecting nitche!

bobbyw8469 04-25-2014 05:20 AM

At least with that card you can see the name! I can see a newbie collector seeing that other card, with no name, no team, no card number, and that high price tag, and be like WTF!?!?!?!?!?! lol.......

Love it!!! I have some "poor" condition cards, but no train wrecks. Beaters are one thing, but that one is lying bloody, battered and comatose by the curb!!!

Far and away the most classic post of all time--will probably be unable to sleep tonight because I'll still be laughing!

You guys are great!

Larry
