Let me know how I did-unfortunately you will have to watch a commercial and skip to the 7:40 mark.

If it was that Tiger book with Chad Gehringer and some other "rare Tiger bum" I think you murdered Les for the $560.00. He's tighter than a screw. You looked like Nervous Nellie and I would be too if someone offered me $560.00 for that book you probably got at a garage sale for 5 bucks.:D Nice job!

tazdmb 04-10-2014 08:38 AM

I did not get it a garage sale for $5-Unfortunatly, I talk fast to begin with as was a bit nervous.

:)I would be too walking into that Lions Den! You did great....

I look forward to watching it tonight; my daughter and I love the show. We laugh our @$$es off at the antics of the general public. When will people learn, if you freak out they will not pay you. The bouncers will toss you out.

I'm glad to see there is one legit sale. There was an episode a while ago where they were selling all of these crappy GU and memorabilia cards--real shiny crap--and some dude supposedly paid $14,000 for the lot. Sure he did...

So, give us more details on the appearance...

That is really cool Im from the Detroit area and while he might not be the best guy. You do get to be on t.v! congrats

Short story (I could go a lot of history between me and the show and fakes they have bought, but I won't). Les asked me to bring in something rare, so I brought the book that I picked up at auction since I figured he would like the Detroit connection. I told him beforehand that I am not a seller he told me that I was under no obligation to sell. I said fine, made an appointment to come back and get miked up and off I went. Nothing was scripted.

Les saw the book and went in back with his guy. Here is where it gets good! The cameraman wanted me to spin and open the book as he didn't like how he filmed it. He shows me how AND TEARS THE COVER OFF THE BOOK! Notice in filming that the cover is in tact, but on the website it is nearly off. Now I know I have Les and he has to basically give me fair market value. The coin flip went down as shown and I took the profits and bought a Heilmann check from Prewar, originally from Jim-of course. TruTV gave me $50 after the taping as guilt money since their camera guy tore the cover.

I have never sold an autograph in my life as wasn't planning to sell until he tore the cover. Honestly, I am glad how it went down as I am not a fan of signed books anyways and seriously considered cutting the autographs out to frame them. Glad I didn't have to and I hope the books finds a good home.

Can't stand that sleazy show.....whiners and thieves.

holyWahoos 04-10-2014 02:39 PM

Have no idea if you made out or not, but cool story :D

Klrdds 04-10-2014 07:31 PM

Good job and a good deal. Just curious do you know what he listed it for to sell?

old13man 04-10-2014 07:32 PM

I saw it on his Ebay store for $1100 or best offer. Crazy!

brooklynbaseball 04-10-2014 08:48 PM

I would've paid you more to hit him and his annoying kids with the book.

Exhibitman 04-16-2014 04:50 PM

His kids especially. That smarmy toad son and adenoidal whiner daughter; reminds me of the old Jackie Gleason line from Smokey and the Bandit:

Buford T. Justice: [to his son] There's no way, no way that you came from my loins. Soon as I get home, first thing I'm gonna do is punch yo mamma in da mouth!

Adam, I think people know the worst they act the better chance they have getting on TV. No matter how stupid they look they get their 15 minutes (5 minutes) of fame.

Personally, I watched it when I was in bed sick, but cannot get through an entire show any more. Too much drama for employees and customers.

Funny you say that. I got into "Pawn Stars" while I was in the hospital. I knew of the show but thought it was all about how they ripped off unknowing sellers. I'm not as big a fan of the show as I used to be, but I still watch it once in a while.

Some website that wanted to show how "Hardcore Pawn" was faked posted a screen shot where someone who was ejected from the store was wearing one of those battery packs that you need to be properly miked, so obviously that person knew they were going to be on TV (unless they give one to every customer that enters the store).
