Distraction after Dad's passing

Sadly I lost my dear Dad this Tuesday. Reading posts on this site is a nice distraction. Thanks guys and gals.

Sorry to hear of your loss; I will be praying for you. This forum is indeed a wealth of information and nice people to trade and do business with. A fine "distraction" indeed.

I am sorry. I lost my dad last October and I can attest it is great to have something to take your mind off things for a while. Prayers coming your way.

Sorry to hear about your loss. My Dad is currently going through a rough patch, and I may soon be in the same position as yourself. It is nice to have friends, family, a hobby, and other distractions to keep you sane at times. Hang in there, and I wish you and your family the best.

Lost mine in July, hasnt been a day I havent thought about him. The memories live on, so does he. I can't count how many times I have said "my dad is gonna kill me" then realization hits. I pray it gets easier for you, and friends and hobbies are the best distractions

It's tough, I just lost my Dad a month ago. Keep taking it one day at a time.

JollyElm 04-10-2014 04:11 PM

Hey, I'm really sorry. Please hang in there.

Sorry to hear. This board can be a nice distraction.

Sorry for your loss. Did your dad have an interest in collecting? A favorite team? A favorite player--maybe one that you both liked?

KCRfan1 04-10-2014 10:45 PM

I'm sorry to hear about your loss.

Tomman1961, I'm so sorry to learn of your father's passing. May God give you and your family strength during this incredibly difficult time.

I collect mainly pre-war now. Right now it is Diamond Stars. I complete my 1972 set recently. Still have some holes in 1958 and 1956. Dad was more of a "motor-head" than a sports guy. But he took me to well over 30 Met games. And dragged me to the OLD Yankee Stadium in 1972 before they remodeled it. We were Met fans. Dad was a great wood-worker. He carved and built model ships. The USS Constitution, The Flying Fish, ... He tried to never buy a part but make his own. He learned out to cut out and sew his own sails. Even at age 80 he had great sight that he tied the riggings.
I am not actively collecting right now as I still have 1 more child to finish college. So I will get back into after the college bills are paid. But I still like reading about your collections.

Dad usually worked 4PM- midnight. He had a habit of coming home at 1AM and read the newspaper. (This is 1973? i was 12 years old). I would miss the end of the Mets game-I was sleeping. He would always write the final score for me on the newspaper and leave it on the kitchen table for me so i knew before I left for school what the Mets did.

It's sad to hear about your fathers passing; I lost my dad last year so I understand a bit how you are currently feeling. Once it a while I still go to pick up the phone to call, but remember he's gone. My father was a car guy as well, used to race round dirt track when he was young. He was a Yanks fan, growing up in NJ, but later converted to an O's fan, since we lived in MD, when I was young and he would take me to old Memorial Stadium and watch the Birds; those are still some great memories. I hope and pray you're doing all right considering the circumstances.

He sounds like a pretty great father.
