707 Sportscards - any thoughts?

I have been looking on eBay for low-grade raw 1933 Goudey cards and I noticed that 707 Sportscards has a good selection in the $10-15 range. I am a newbie in the Pre-War arena so I am checking to see if any of you veterans have had any dealings with this seller.

Thanks,

Ed

If the money is not an issue with you, then they are fine.

Wite3 04-07-2014 08:35 AM

Often overpriced...make sure you get a scan of the back too.

MVSNYC 04-07-2014 08:58 AM

Solid dealer, have dealt with them for many years.

jimivintage 04-07-2014 08:59 AM

Agreed....can be overpriced....but who isn't anymore? However, no problems with 707 over the years.

lol......when a card sells for more on Ebay than I am asking for on the BST thread....then yes, I can agree with that!

Section103 04-07-2014 09:29 AM

Dealer is solid in terms of reliability. Historically overpriced and -very- difficult to get a good negotiation on "Best Offers". But if you're looking for cards that aren't terribly expensive to begin with, I see no issue at all.

varsitycollectibles 04-07-2014 09:29 AM

I've bought from 707 before. No issues here.

Bestdj777 04-07-2014 09:33 AM

No issues here. Very reliable seller.

I agree he doesnt negotiate much with the Best Offer.I guess you can price cards as high as you like when you know there are collectors out there that got to have those cards and will eventually break down and spend the money.Other than that the couple of times I have purchased a card from him they were great transactions.

bbcard1 04-07-2014 10:04 AM

Known them for a long time, seldom bought from them, but they are solid. I actually did have some luck on a Delong Gehringer I needed to complete my set which I found with them fairly priced and they negotiated a bit.

Bpm0014 04-07-2014 10:04 AM

Solid reputation. Horribly overpriced.

707 Sportscards

I've known Levi (707 founder) since 1981. I have had some great dealings with Levi and Jimmy going back to the Willow Grove and Ft. Washington Show
days.
When I need certain card(s) that I cannot find elsewhere, I drive over to their place and sort thru their massive inventory. And, approx. 90% of the time,
they have what I'm looking for.

Some here have posted that 707's prices are "high". Well, as a dealer myself, I can tell you that buying cards nowadays for resale is not a cheap matter,
anymore.

Solid as there is, you will absolutely get the pictured card shipped securely and in a timely manner.

kamikidEFFL 04-07-2014 10:47 AM

I have dealt with him in the past just prices are usually a bit high.

baker85 04-07-2014 12:22 PM

Solid dealer. I bought a card off of him and I met Levi at a bar for the transaction. Nothing like having a beer and talking baseball cards.

MattyC 04-07-2014 12:35 PM

I've had some great dealings with Levi. Very often he has a card that looks far better than others in the same grade or even higher. For such cards finicky collectors will often happily pay a premium.

PM770 04-07-2014 01:34 PM

He is expensive but I think he tends to undergrade. I bought VG from him through Ebay and it looked like a pretty good EX to me (and I tend to undergrade as well).

Rich Klein 04-07-2014 01:38 PM

Levi, his family and Jim are all good people. You will get what you pay for and we all love great deals but there is nothing wrong in this (or any collectibles buisness) with honest retailers.

I've known of 707 for a long time. I don't believe I have ever bought a card from them and, if I did, it was a one time single card transaction. Overpriced.

Sean 04-07-2014 01:46 PM

I've only dealt with him once, without problem. I've always thought his prices were high, but if you don't mind paying, by all means go ahead and buy.

hammer 04-07-2014 02:03 PM

Jimmy and Levi are great people. Ive bought cards snd never had a problem with them. If you like the card buy it. Will be sent promptly and secured.

HRBAKER 04-07-2014 02:15 PM

Great guy, nice top hat.

Vintagevault13 04-07-2014 02:25 PM

Thanks

Thanks to everyone for the responses. I think I will give 707 a try. From what I have read, their prices might be a little high they are obviously honest. For a new Pre-War collector like me that is still learning, it is good to know I will get what I pay for.

Howe’s Hunter 04-07-2014 03:20 PM

Long story about a good deal

Back in 95, when I was collecting t206s in general, and trying to get all 16 backs, 707 had a Drum-backed Bender no trees that I was interested in. But for more than I would have ever dreamed paying for a card at the time. I called to see if they might bring the card to the National that year so I could see it in person and Levi agreed. The doors open and I hightail it to the 707 booth to see the card. It was in absolutely poor condition, just as described. Levi told me the price again, and I countered with an offer 15% less. "Let me think about it," he said. He proceeded to finish setting up some cards, arranged his displays, sat down, and ate a sandwich. I stood and waited. 30 minutes later, he asked me what I wanted to see. Told him I was waiting on his answer about my offer. "Oh, that. Yeah, I'll take it." Was the only card I intended to buy and had the rest of the day to look at stuff I could no longer afford. (But I did get to hold a PSA 3 Honus Wagner at the SportcardsPlus booth)

wolfdogg 04-07-2014 03:30 PM

Never had a problem with Levi and his staff...............

skelly 04-07-2014 04:31 PM

Big Fan. Number one, I think he's a good guy. Number two, and I know this sounds silly, but in addition to buying cards at a card show it is a "card show" and very few people have the set-up that Levi has when he lays out his army of PSA graded cards. Finally, the man has good taste in music as is evident by his various 80's hard rock t-shirts that he is sometimes found sporting.

ALR-bishop 04-07-2014 05:01 PM

Levi

I have done business with him a long time. He prefers payment by check from me and sends cards before he receives payment.

Jeff---the hat is not nice, but it is ....different

williamcohon 04-07-2014 05:16 PM

I have bought cards from him several times and he's always a mensch.

Jcfowler6 04-07-2014 05:17 PM

Purchased items in the past with good results. A bit overpriced but the cards I needed at the time he had.

MyGuyTy 04-07-2014 05:20 PM

Bought quite a few cards from Levi back in the late 90's and early 2000's (although not much recently). Good guy, one of first online dealers.

MattyC 04-07-2014 05:22 PM

It's a real testament to what a good job Levi does that he can be in business so long and have so many positive references, especially in this hobby-- where so many are so critical. He should be very proud to have built such a solid reputation! Bravo.

My thoughts exactly.

In the history of Net54, has there ever been a thread with this many replies, from this many different people, with nobody saying a bad thing?

My dealings with them have also been top notch.

Doug

steve_a 04-07-2014 07:42 PM

His BIN is high like most but I have had multiple offers accepted. No issues

gnaz01 04-07-2014 07:46 PM

Bought from him in the 80's, no issues.

I have dealt with Levi several times and would recommend 707 to anyone. Honest seller, great guy, etc.

And I, too, dig the top hat. :)

As for his prices, I have said this before and will likely say it again. Reach out to him and start a dialogue regarding the purchase you are looking to make. A little interaction can go a long way.

Best regards,

Eric

Great guy
Great inventory
very high prices

Griffins 04-08-2014 12:38 AM

Had nothing but great dealings with Jim, Levi & Donna, both buying and selling. Very professional and highly recommended.

Hot Springs Bathers 04-08-2014 09:05 AM

I sold them a handful of 1952 Topps high numbers back in the 1980s at a National. I wish they would sell them back to me at the same price?

I've worked with them before. Very fair and knowledgable...also a good resource if you are looking for tough E series cards.

Levi and team are good people. They stick close to their asking prices most times but you will get good service with a smile. I like Levi and Jim a lot.

dabigyankeeman 04-10-2014 07:10 PM

Totally trustworthy. Usually on more expensive graded cards they are very expensive. Not always expensive on cheaper cards. No problems with them ever.

Nothing but good dealings with them from my experience.

calvindog 04-13-2014 10:18 AM

Agree with all said above. Sometimes he's too expensive, sometimes he's not. But he's honest and no-nonsense. Nothing more you can ask for.

Cards will be absolutely legit, but having dealt with this seller for many years, pricing will be quite high for the grade.

Best of luck,

Larry A. Smith
