Gehrig photo help

Sp this photo is on ebay, listed as being a 1917 portrait of Gehrig as a freshman in HS. In the listing, the seller states the notation HLG-17 is written on the back and signifies that it's Gehrig. I don't agree.

I don't think this is Gehrig and wanted the board member's opinions.
The following photo is a photo taken from Eig's book reported to be from when he graduated elementary school. It would've been the year before the listed photo was taken. I don't think they look alike.

Also, in every picture I have seen of Gehrig with a really big smile, he has big double dimples(see pic below for what I mean) on both sides of his mouth. This child doesn't.

What do you think?

I seen that listing too. The chin is to narrow. In early photos of Gehrig, he has a broader chin.

The difference in ear shape is so substantial that the kid cannot be Gehrig. End of story. The age difference does not account for this.

Also, by high school age one's jaw shape is pretty close to what you see in an adult - so Albert's comment is probably right (though I am not trying to compare that in the photos I posted).

I was actually just about the mention the ear shape. Right on, Mark!

Just to illustrate the difference when the photo ID is correct - again it's best to start with the ears if you can clearly see them. In this case the match seems perfect. Also the lips and chin structure seem right.

Assuming that this photo was supplied by the family, there is no reason to doubt that it depicts Gehrig.

Albert, Mark, and Graig,
Thanks very much for your feedback. You all confirmed my suspicions.

The seller emailed me and said he guarantees its gehrig and said he bought it along with other gehrig photos. I compared early photos also and thats not him. The seller doesnt wanna hear it and its funny because he keeps lowering the price every couple days

I emailed the seller twice today about that it isn't Gehrig and haven't gotten a response. I even pointed him to Net54 to see this thread.
Oh well.
