Yuengling Ice Cream
Hi everyone! Just getting ready to dig in to this blast from the past!
http://i1290.photobucket.com/albums/...psed4334a6.jpg I've collected York Caramels which are very similar. If I were to start into Yuengling Ice Cream and their cards, are there any nuances with this set that I should be aware of? Feel free to share any cool Yuengling Pics on this thread for motivation! |

Leon, Yuengling's ice cream is available in Texas? Is the beer even available in Texas? The Yuengling website only shows the beer being distributed in about 16 states, the majority of which are in the Northeast.
I live about 45 minutes from the Yuengling headquarters in Pottsville, Pa. I have read many times over the years about people moving out of Pennsylvania and reacquainting themselves with the beer when they would return home for holidays or family visits. |
My kid told me about it last week, so naturally I'll have to do give it a try.:p

Miss the Yuengs!
I grew up in PA 10 miles from Yuengling and worked in Pottsville for 12 years, you could see the brewery from my office window. I still work for the same company, but am now in a remote office in the Austin area. And, no, you can't get it in Texas, or anywhere west of the Mississippi in general. I moved to Texas 2 years ago and miss Yuengling beer. Luckily I had some family make a road trip and stop in to visit along the way. They dropped off 5 cases of Lager and 5 cases of Porter! There's still about 4 cases left, but it won't last long...bottoms up!

My favorite Lager from my time around Reading ,,, YUMMY

It is good to Yuengling's Ice Cream is back. I was amazed to hear the ice cream survived until the 1980's. I like the cards too.

I love Yuengling. Whenever my dad orders a Budweiser I ask him why he hates America and order a Yuengling.

Regarding the ice cream. Just to clarify. It is not made by Yuengling but rather by Leiby's and distributed by Yuengling. Which is the best of both worlds since IMHO, Leiby's ice cream was better than Yuengling's (back when they both existed). But I might be biased since my dad used to work for Leiby's (then Guers, after Leiby's sold their milk distribution to Guers) and ever Friday afternoon we would pick out 2 or 3 half-gallons of what looked good that day from the plant's ice cream freezer.
Regarding the beer. Yuengling's Black and Tan is my favorite Yuengling but there's nothing like sitting in an old style PA bar and having someone create you a "black and tan" (or "half and half") direct from the lager and porter taps. Try ordering these from a bar outside the area and chances are you'll be met with blank stares. LOL Regarding the cards. I'm working on a lower grade set and am always looking for hits within my budget. |
