Aroldis Chapman injury

I just saw the video of this and damn. It reminds me of Bryce Florie. Thankfully Chapman doesn't appear to have been injured as bad.

Had one of our fantasy drafts Tuesday night. We have this running joke about one of the guys in the league, and his luck with getting players hurt. We call it the curse of the Jambino. It's been poven time and time again, and now we avoid his players in our other leagues.. Well, he severely reached for Chapman, and look what happens the next day(coincidentally Jambino also drafted Sal Perez).. Last year Hanley's injury happened shortly after the draft..

All jokes aside.. It's a terrible situation. I obviously wish Chapman the best in his recovery.. I know in the past many players on the other end of these things have dealt with some mental trauma of their own, so I hope Perez is able to cope with this as well...

I feel a little bad for laughing at that one.

It's a rough time being a pitcher. If you're not getting hit in the head by a line drive, you're needing Tommy John surgery.

I saw the replay last night late on ESPN. It was very hard to watch. Thankfully, he's going to be ok, outside of a broken orbital bone which needed a metal plate. I don't know how they can be sure he won't get headaches, or develop vision issues. I hope they are right, and that he makes a full recovery.

Something needs to be done to help protect pitchers. Maybe something they can wear under the hat. Of course, this hit him in the face. Unless MLB is going to require pitchers wear a Hannibal Lector mask, or a Lebron James mask, I don't know what they can do.

It is a tough deal and almost surely some day a professional or college pitcher will die. They have created prototype protective hats, but I've heard a handful of pitchers interviewed and they said they would never wear it.. and will never wear a protective hat until it looks almost 100% like a standard hat.

I knew a guy in HS who wore a helmet when he pitched. He was hit in the head in city league when he was younger.

When Rickey Henderson was with the Mets, he told his teammate John Olerud he once knew a teammate with the Blue Jays that also wore a helmet while playing first base. John Olerud informed Rickey it was he that wore a helmet in Toronto... Or so the legend goes
