Why did this t206 go so high?

I know, the usual explanation is, "two guys in bidding war," but this seems to go beyond that, way beyond. It's not even the top graded PSA Old Mill for this. Geez, if this is the new reality, I ought to move my top-graded Bradley Old Mill...

Non sensical

sb1 03-10-2014 05:41 PM

Probably because the sellers is very reasonable and strives on customer service. :) he he

That's what his listing states.

Wow that makes absolutely no sense. I could understand maybe $200 to $225 tops for an EX Old Mill common, but $1,075?!?!

thehoodedcoder 03-10-2014 05:53 PM

Two people put in ridiculous numbers thinking they would win it cheaper and someone has a jaw which is getting in the way of writing the check right now probably.

Three different bidders bid $1000 or more. It wasn't that long ago that that card
would have sold for $100-$150.

kcohen 03-10-2014 06:22 PM

Good for Dan.

bbsports 03-10-2014 06:22 PM

Maybe the people who made strong bids on this card didn't realize that this is not the highest graded PSA copy.

drmondobueno 03-10-2014 09:13 PM

Maybe the back looks blue ?:D

teetwoohsix 03-10-2014 10:24 PM

There could be many reasons-someone needed this card for an OM subset? Or, maybe it's a tough front/back combo? I didn't check any pop reports-but, I did check this card on CardTarget- it looks like one has sold publicly back on 8-4-2009 and it was graded a "1". And it looked like the data went back to 2006. So, that's my guess. Maybe this combo has been sold or traded privately-but I'd venture to say it's a tough combination at a pretty decent grade?

Sincerely, Clayton

As noted previously, it's not even highest grade in PSA pop report so theory that is goes out the window.

But perhaps the highest graded copy is known to be in a private collection that isn't expected to come up for sale any time soon. If the last sale for this front back combo was in 2009, then this might be the one chance to pick one up for a long time. I know that there are quite a few Chicago Cubs master set collectors out there....

Just a guess, way too pricey for me!! :D

My guess is someone thought it has a good chance of being bumped. I think the bottom corners are too soft but maybe it could get a 6.5. Would that make it the highest graded?

bn2cardz 03-11-2014 07:17 AM

I have not looked at pop reports nor cardtarget and vcp, but by looking at the research others have done in this thread it goes to show that POP reports mean absolutely nothing compared to frequency of sale. I really think that POP reports now mean nothing when not also looking at frequency of sales with VCP and cardtarget doing a decent job tracking public sales (it does miss lots and they don't cover every auction site).

POP reports and past sale trackers both have faults but when you use the two together you get a better idea of the full picture.

Where did I mention highest graded example? Anyhow- so when was the last time this "highest graded example" was available for sale? Or, better yet-can you buy ANY graded example of this card right now?

Sometimes cards don't have to be "the highest graded example" to be worth something-and any card is worth whatever someone wants to pay for it.

Sincerely, Clayton

I might pay $120 for it but thats it!!!

Sure wish my T205's were like this. I have an AB Bender that I got 7 yrs ago and have yet to see another FS. Probably only worth $80 with the back. Also own several of the highest graded AB's and there only worth a bit more than normal grades.

I hope you all buy up all the T206's so more people start collecting 205's:D

150/350 subjects are very tough with Old Mill--especially in high grade.

Much tougher than 350/460 regular print subjects, for example.

Sheckard No Glove is a 150/350 subject.

The Old Mills do seem to be scarce in high grade....as for which ones I will leave that to you guys but I just know I rarely see very high grade ones. Thanks for chiming in Scot.....
