T206,T201: reprints, deliberate fakes?
Hey all,
Let me preface this post by saying I don't know squat about tobacco cards. I'm an autograph collector. I was digging through some boxes are cards and I came across these. Are these known reprints or deliberate fakes? Thanks Kyle http://imageupper.com/i/?S0300010050...39805691105121 http://imageupper.com/i/?S0300010050...39805691105121 http://imageupper.com/i/?S0300010050...39805691105121 http://imageupper.com/i/?S0300010050...39805691105121 http://imageupper.com/i/?S0300010050...39805691105121 |
Im far from an expert, but the Rudolph looks good to me

What color is the lettering on the Rudolph?

It's hard to tell really. Black, gray, brown? I don't know.
If anyone is interested in purchasing these (should they be real), I would gladly send them to you first for further inspection. |
Lettering on t206 are brown. If it is black then probably fake.

Reprints
The T201's look legit to me. The Dover reprints have a reprint label on the back near the bottom center. Yours doesn't have that and there is no evidence it was worn away by an eraser. Printing on the front of reprints look a little "hazy" and are printed on thicker stock.
The originals are printed on a paper stock (thinner than the reprints); however, you need an original to compare it to. Originals are typically cut with a slight diamond edge shape and are frequently offset a little to the right. Z Wheat |
