Christy Mathewson Check SOLD

Need to fill that Mathewson hole in your HoF collection? (Who doesn't?) Don't have $12 grand+ to spend? (Who does?) Well, here's your chance. A wonderful Christy Mathewson personal check, in NM condition, entirely filled out in Christy's hand. SOLD

Yes, the signature was removed long ago. Still, have you ever seen any other unquestionably genuine example of Mathewson's handwriting at an affordable price?

I thought not.

I have a similar one but have the signature part also, separate and everything around the ink of the signature has white out around it. It is not where I am at the moment but Jim Stinson said it was real. Got it from Scott Gaynor a long time ago. Good luck with your sale.

This reminds me of the people u see sometimes who have pieces of Ty Cobb writing, or check stubs he wrote. I don't think this fits a whole for an autograph of the player. Still, like u said, at these prices for full checks, etc, it may be all some can get. Good luck sir.

For an $8,000-$10,000 autograph, I think it fits such a hole very well. There are some hi-res images of Matty checks from the same period, including the little logo to the left of his signature, that could be used to create a very nice facsimile signature to go with his actual handwriting. If I was collecting checks of the 'original 5', this would fit very nicely.

Good luck David.

We can agree to disagree on this, in that to me, I would want his entire sig, if I was collecting and had the obvious deep pockets needed for a check of Matty. Again tho, its just what one would accept. No disrespect intended to the OP
