To restore or not?
2 Attachment(s)
I just posted pictures of this sign in February Pickups. As you can see the top and right borders were cut away so it could be used as the backing of a picture frame. I know I know...it makes me sick too. Anyways would you have it "restored" back to original?
|
I would frame it just as is.
|
if you had the other two pieces for it I would get it fixed but as you don't I would frame it as is.
|
I would have an artist create the missing pieces and kinda put it back like a puzzle NOT having to touch the original poster/sign. Then frame it :)

I would frame it as it is.
|
Yeah, I'd leave it alone.
|
If I had the money to do so I would have it restored by the same company that restored the A&G poster in Lelands. They did a great job, and no doubt it increased its value.
|
What beautiful colors! They sure knew how to draw your attention. I guess I would try to have it restored then frame it.
|
Hey Dan. Can you provide a link to that Leland's lot or do you know who the restorer was?
Thanks |

If you want to hang it on your wall and enjoy it then I would have it restored. It is a wonderful piece possibly unique that if you had restored would bring you and collectors joy for a number of lifetimes. You would be preserving a piece of baseball history. That being said get some estimates on the cost of restoration and framing the poster and see if the cost balances with the benefit. I had a poster restored last spring and am very happy I did.

After picture of poster that hangs in my den. It helped that my son liked the poster and I knew it would have a good home for quite some time. So if you want to hang it up and enjoy it definitely have it restored.

Thanks, Dan!

If you chose to look into restoration this is the website of the person who restored my poster and his work on vintage movie posters is amazing.
WWW.Vintagemovieart.ca And Thank you Scott I enjoy the poster. |
If you need to see the full artwork for restoration, there is a 1910 Victor catalog with the same artwork on the cover (minus the "Sold Here" tag line):

Wow... what a great assist from Lance!!
Now that you have the full "template" I would think restoration is a no-brainer. If done right, this will look amazing :) |
Big Thanks to Lance for the pic and everyone else with your suggestions. I had thought about the idea of having an artist paint the missing piece as was suggested earlier because i really dont want to mess with what is there because it truly is in great shape. I also think in the right hands of a professional restorer it could look "as good as new." But truly Thanks everyone so far!:)
