Fake T206 UZIT

Wanted to show everyone this one. It was good enough it fooled me anyway. The only thing was it was a bit thicker than what a normal T206 is...and someone with better eyes than me could tell it looked suspicious under a loupe.

Background - bought it off ebay from a seller that doesn't seem to be a baseball collector. He did have it listed as a t206, no mention of a Uzit back at all. He was also happy to let it go as a buy it now for $160. To me, not the actions of someone trying to deceive a Uzit...but also makes me wonder how it got into his hands, as surely whoever spent time on this card at some point did make some money off it.

I don't have it back yet, but did see on the SGC site they labeled it as counterfeit.

I can't see it. Is my computer acting up again, or is a link to the card missing?

I am far from a T206 expert but when I see a card that has consistent rounded corners, that color of brown stain around the edges and that kind of wear to the white areas of the border, I immediately think it is a fake.

The T206's that I have seen with rounded corners, the corners weren't consistent in their roundness. The cardboard wasn't that brown color and the white borders were more flaked off and not worn off.

I don't know if I have explained things clearly but seeing what I am talking about you could tell the difference.

Then you through in an UZIT back.....

David

P.S. I am not trying to denigrate the OP or start a fight.

Also...upon viewing the super large back scan...as well as the front scan for that matter... you can see a grid like pattern in the paper stock...which is wrong for a t206.

Can't fool me. Dot matrix.

Yes - once I got it in hands I became mighty suspicious. I held out hope...but am only out the money for grading. The seller has been good about it and already refunded me before I've even returned the card to him. Worst thing is the card should be destroyed...but ebay requires me to return it.

These were the only two images I had to go off of on ebay.....and for a $165 that I'd be covered on..I took a chance with only losing some money for grading.

For the ROI it was worth the risk on loosing out on grading fees. Especially when you take into account the seller had decent feedback and doesn't seem to sell a bunch of fakes.

Fake T206 UZIT

Always easy to pick out a fake when it's already been announced as a fake. This one looks like a pretty good one and just by looking at the last picture you showed, it would have been tough to pass up. The rounded corners seem to be a sign, the look and pattern of the corners seem to possibly be another sign of a fake...these are good for anyone to keep in their back pocket for future purchases.
