Negro League Players by State
I like to collect players from Texas and I'm curious if anyone knows of a resource that allows users to search Negro League players by state of birth.
If not, who comes to your mind regarding Negro League players from Texas? So far I have: Rube Foster, Willie Foster, Willie Wells, and Smokey Joe Williams. |
I'm not sure where you could find a list like that, but Henry McHenry comes to mind. I believe he was born in Houston.

One more that I though of.....Hilton Smith.

Here are some that haven't been listed yet
Louis Santop Loftin was born in Tyler, Texas in 1890 Ernie Banks was born in Dallas, Texas in 1931 Andrew Lewis Cooper was born in Waco, 1898 Newt Allen was born in Austin, 1901 William Bell was born in Galveston, 1897 Roy "Red" Parnell was born in Austin, 1905 William Blair was born in Dallas, 1921 Hurley McNair was born in Marshall, TX 1888 Chaney White was born in Dallas (unk birthdate) |
If you go to baseball-reference.com and look up Negro League teams, you can find team rosters that show place of birth.
Just for the 1940 Negro National League, I see Texans Homer Curry, Jesse Walker, Zolie Wright, Biz Mackey, Henry McHenry, and Roy Parnell. You'll need to go through each team in each league year-by-year. See http://www.baseball-reference.com/nlb/league.cgi for a list of links to leagues. Kevin |
Thanks for the info guys! I actually had an exchange on Twitter with the president of the NLBM on the topic before I posted. I'm hoping for a summer trip to KC to go to the museum and catch a game.
