Need an Opinion from the T206 Variation Experts

Need help from Johnny & Co.!

I recently upgraded my Simon Nicholls Fielding (thanks to Fred Young!! :)), but on comparing the upgrade to my original, there seems to be a color pass missing. Can the experts please take a look at these two and let me know if this is just wear on the lighter Nicholls, or if it is actually missing a color pass? The darker blue just above the grass on the horizon seems to be partially missing, the color of the lines on the cap are lighter/missing and the sky, grass and shadows all seem to be lighter. Interested to hear the expert opinions!

Thanks,

Steve

Hard to know for sure, it's either very faded/worn, or missing a final color pass. Here's my example, as you can see it is dark and bold...(mine's not missing color, but does have a pretty sweet back miscut tho). ;)

Was it ever glued in an album? Any back damage?

Honestly just looks like heavy fading/wear to me. Even if we said it could be a color pass the difference is so slight between it and normal wear that I don't see a meaningful price difference.

Here's a scan of the back. There are some markings which could be a sign that it was once glued into an album. That could quite possibly explain the color difference. It just doesn't look like fading to me. The dark blue right above the grass looks like it's missing a tint. The entire card does actually. Would red be the final pass even on a card that had no red coloring (with the exception of the lips)?

Thanks, I was waiting for your expert opinion!! :D

I'll chalk it up to fading. It just jumped out at me when I had the two lined up next to each other in an album page.

Thanks for everyone's input and sorry for the false alarm!! :D

Storing your cards outdoors in the tropical sun of Massachusetts is a mistake, Steve. Consider bringing the rest indoors.

GoldenAge50s 01-23-2014 10:41 PM

Sun is not the problem here right now Frank, but at the rate we're going Steve will have to wait 'til Spring to bring them in! (Steve is just a little piece up the road from me & I had around 11" in my driveway yesterday!)

Are your cards inside yet Frank?
