Removing adhesive from a baseball?
1 Attachment(s)
Good morning all -
I was hoping you might be able to help me in figuring out if adhesive can be removed from a baseball. It appears that the previous owner taped a label or something along those lines to the front of the ball. The outline of the label along with the adhesive is still on the ball. Is it possible to remove this adhesive without damaging the ball? Any feedback is greatly appreciated! |
I would be scared that anything which will dissolve the residue will also leave a stain. If it were mine I might try a tiny bit of distilled water and rub very gently to see what happens. Maybe others will have a better idea.

Go to a good shoe repair store - they will know how to clean such stuff from soft leather.

Good call Scott! Thanks for your thoughts Leon!

Good suggestion. Also, it might not be a bad idea to see if Rawlings would give guidance. I would be interested to know if they would help...

Just a thought, I had a new MLB baseball the I wanted to use get auto's at the Brooklyn Cyclones Game in Brooklyn last year for my kids. The ball had glue residue on it, was kid of bumpy. Granted my ball has no value, not sure the value of your ball. I put the ball in the freezer for about 15-20 minutes hardened up the glue. Just used my finger to slowly rub back and forth. Glue came right off. This worked for a MLB Ball from 2013 . Just my story, because it's an old ball proceed with caution.

I generally use WD-40 as a stickum remover, but I'm not entirely sure what it'd do to a ball. Hasn't ever stained anything I've tried it on though.

I've used lighter fluid with success. The kind you'd refill a zippo with. It evaporates quickly and won't stain. The glue that you're removing may stain though. If you work it slowly you'll likely be better off than if you were to attack it in one try. A few light passes to remove as much glue as you can before you hit leather should do it.
