Jerry Coleman passes

Sad way to start out the year. Jerry Coleman passed away today. He was 89 years old. He'd been one of the voices of the Padres for over 40 years. The past few years he wasn't so involved but he was around the booth for about a third of the home games.

There must have been something in the Yankee water cooler because besides Yogi, he was known as the Master of the Malaprop... Today we lose a great baseball man and a great American.

A class act all the way! Met Jerry several times and always loved the stories he told. Rest in Peace Jerry.

There are not many left of those from the Casey Stengel 5 yr run of WS Championships ('49 thru '53).

RIP.

It wasn't just Yogi Berra and Jerry Coleman, but also Phil Rizzuto who had the off the wall commentary.

Sad to hear of Jerry's passing.

Not many realize Jerry's father "Gerald Francis Coleman Sr." also played professional baseball, he never did make the majors but was featured on a 1919 Zeenut card...

Sorry to hear the news! I think that the Padres have a great announcing crew and Coleman was one of my favorites! Jerry Coleman was a class act who will be greatly missed!

American Hero

Condolences to friends and family of The Colonel as he was called. I just read a great tribute/story of him on espn.com. He is the only ball player to fly combat mission in two wars- WWII & Korea. Ted Williams also was enlisted in both but only saw combat in Korea (He was also a hero, no shame there). Coleman was the MVP of the 1950 World Series and a Hall of Fame broadcaster. Rest in Peace

Jerry Coleman was beloved and respected by all here in San Diego. "The Colonel" will be sorely missed. He was a fixture at Petco Park, and gracious to everyone. RIP Jerry...................

Jerry Coleman

I saw Jerry play when I was kid in the 1950's. He and Rizzuto were a great Double-Play combo.

GOD Bless his soul and comfort his family and fans.
