Can Someone Help Me ID a Babe Ruth & Honus Wagner Photo?

I picked this up at an antique mall yesterday & I was wondering if anyone here can assist me in giving me any information about it (it measures 6.5" by 8.5")? The stamping on the reverse are light but has a stamp bearing the International News Photos logo with handwritten pencil notations of Babe Ruth & Honus Wagner. Any idea on what a fair market value of this would be? Thanks

Neat photo. I am not a photo expert but do follow quite a few. Being that it's very late in his career and he isn't in uniform, I don't think it will be terribly valuable. I would guess (and others will know more) the value in auction would be $40-$100......A lot of photos have come out the last few years and some values have definitely come down due to the supply. Maybe someone more tuned into the market will provide a better estimate....

The back stamp, from what I can make out, appears to most closely match the one shown in Yee/Fogel's book for the 1933-40 period. It doesn't exactly match any of the stamps shown, but that appears to be the closest.

If you were going to do some research and try to find an exact match for the image and text that would have been on the accompanying paper caption (now absent, but the photo does show evidence of it once having been attached), I would concentrate on 1936 around the time that both men were inducted into the HOF.

In my opinion, I think Leon's about right with his price range. Given the absence of the caption and specific date stamp, it would probably be towards the middle to lower end of that range as is. If it had the original dated caption, or if you are able to match it to a printed article, you might be able to push it to the upper end of that range.

One of these days I'll learn to do a Google Image search BEFORE opining on these things. Looks like it's from January 1, 1938:

Thanks for the responses; would this be considered a Type 1 photo?

Love it! That is exactly how I titled it when I saved the scan :)

From what I can see, it appears to be ORIGINAL at least. Stamping style looks right for the time period, and has remnants of original paper caption affixed. Type 1 technically requires the photo to have been printed within 2 years of when it was shot, so without any specific date stamps or dated caption, you'll get differing opinions on whether you can technically call it a Type 1, but my guess would be that the original caption had the proper date.

Might be a novice question, but is Wagner showing Ruth his "batting grip"?

1936 BB Writers Dinner

The Ruth / Wagner photo was taken at the January 1936 Baseball Writers dinner at the Hotel Commodore in NYC

Attached are two other photos taken the same night. A friend of mine used to have a ton of Babe Ruth negatives with the envelopes and captions and I made contact prints of all of them many years ago.

This one shows them with Joe DiMaggio and Ed Barrow
