Mel Ott : Help ID the strange details please .

.......The seller knew nothing... I bought it several years ago ; I had never seen one like it before ; I have not seen another anywhere since. ....The dimensions are exactly 6 inches by 8 3/8 . There is no gloss ; there are four small very faint pale stains , one at each corner on the blank white back so it's been in a scrapbook , which has preserved it ; it presents as virtually pristine. .....I've seen many similar poses of Mel Ott but never this exact one . ..The insignia on his left sleeve looks like a big stylized ''NY'' ?? ..I've been able to track down a ''Norcross Stamping/Fittings Plant'' in 1930's New York and it appears that they had enough employees to field a baseball team in the '' New York Industrial League''.......about a year or so ago there was a very nice vintage baseball trophy on E-Bay's Sports Memorabilia and the inscription was something like '' awarded to Norcross '' of or by ''The New York Industrial League'' ....I'm curious about the ''Hi-Ya'' and the odd gaps in the inscription ( '' Nor cr oss '' , Re g ar ds '' ) ..Does anyone know if Mel Ott had difficulties reading and writing ? Perhaps a slight dyslexia ? The penmanship is beautiful , just a bit labored and halting ? ...If one of these was awarded to each member of the team then this survivor is merely scarce.....If this was a one-off and the factory owner's son took it home and hid it away in a scrapbook then it falls into the obscure and rare category . .. any help or information from a Mel Ott fan or a New York Giants historian would be greatly appreciated ; thanks in advance , guys. .....If Leon has three of these , I'd just as soon not want to know. |
