Has anyone ever seen or have any of the early Spalding Trophies? A base is for sale on ebay but here is a picture from the 1908 guides

Those look more high end than normal. I haven't seen one . But they must have been expensive

Fantastic looking trophies! Does anyone here have one?

A couple of months back someone put for sale on ebay, vintage photos of larger spalding trophies with the same base as the one that just sold on ebay.

I almost started a thread here and was wondering if anyone had ever seen these large and magnificent trophies. I only know they are large because there was a photo of a team with the trophy in the picture.

Last, my gut feeling is that the ebay auction that just ended contained a trophy that was not really part of the base. Anyone have any idea or more information about these vintage and rare trophies and/or if the ebay auction contained the wrong trophy for the base?

he said in the description that it was not the trophy for the base. The fact that the base went for $1200 tells me the actual trophy would be $10,000 plus

the photo's are from the Spalding Books from the early 1900's.

Would love to see one in person

the base by itself was 25 inches wide by 14.5 inches deep and 8 inches high. The players on top were an additional 10 inches high. This thing was huge. The base plaques were from 1907 to 1929 on the ebay example

And think it was for a grade school

Has any board member ever seen one in person?

Never..... not even in Cooperstown.

You'd think that some would have survived, simply due to their sheer magnificence. Must have been super expensive (even back then), and thus super scarce

Would love to see a post, in the unlikely event that someone is holding back!

If you read the story on the page from the guide it says it was made for an elementary school league and then other school leagues asked for one also. So more than one were made

Since the plaques go to 1929 on this one and a lot of the other Spalding trophy's from the time have made it, there has to be an example out there

Thanks, I missed that in the description. What magnificent pieces they are. Hope to see one someday.
