Memory Lane Lot #1327

Just a warning to potentially interested parties... Memory Lane Lot #1327 is an obvious M & N reproduction....

Most on this Board are probably already aware, but just wanted novice collectors to be warned (as there is already a bid placed). Below are some other examples out there.... These are not vintage and not rare...

Currently in Hunt Auctions (and correctly billed as a repro...)

Currently On-line...

And the Red Sox version (same maker...)

Hope this is helpful

Wow. How do the repros look in person? Do they appear vintage when in hand?
Thanks
Matt

Not if you know what to look for. I could write a dissertation, but don't have the time or energy tonight. Easiest/most obvious tell-tale signs are the density of felt, painted graphics vs. raised velvet, amount of space between the tassels, width of the tassels themselves, and the thread/method used to sew on the vertical binding strip.

Ever since Mitchell & Ness decided to market these, it's been a problem. An ill-advised venture, and a headache for vintage collectors. A small percentage of ebay sellers portray them as real, and a few have sporadically turned up in Major Catalog Auctions (as in this instance).

You just have to see/handle both types in person, and the difference becomes quite evident. In this particular case, I don't even think it's a good replica... in no way does this example look vintage 1950s.
