Help with some Globetrotters Autos
3 Attachment(s)
Hi All,
I just picked up this 1980 Globetrotters program. Sweet Lou has autographed the upper left. Any ideas about the other auto's? Thanks Eric |
The signature on the center on the ball is Charles 'Tex' Harrison. Played for the Trotters for 18 years and was one of the players on the "Harlem Globetrotters Popcorn Machine' variety show in 1972. He became coach of the team after retiring. If you were to include specific members of the Globetrotters for any Basketball Hall of Fame related item you could include him along with Curly Neal, Meadowlark Lemon, Goose Tatum, Geese Ausbie etc. He was also the first All American from an HBC (Historically Black College).
There is an all time roster on their official website, but it has been changed and no longer includes the years played, which would help. I would expect there to be a roster in the program. No one with a last name of Osborne appears on their roster. |
Thank you Michael

How about a first name?
Osborne "the Wizard" Lockhart. http://m.harlemglobetrotters.com/?ur...me-roster#2602 |
Excellent! Thanks Chris!
Any others? Eric |

I found an example on ebay that looks the same. On the ebay auto he only signed his first name as well.
Thanks again Eric |
It was/is very common for the Globetrotters to sign just their first names. I got quite a few, at the time, current players at the Hall of Fame inductions a few years ago and almost all signed just their first names. The challenge in identifying them is that some of the nicknames are picked up by newer players. There have been several 'Sweet Lou's' with the team, though Dunbar is the most important one. As I mentioned previously their website once listed the years they were with the team which made it easier to identify the signatures even with just a first name.
