Was this card graded while wet?

I'm not sure I've ever seen anything quite like this. I know cards can have flecks come off in the holder but this looks to have fogged up the inside of the slab, plus there are loose black granules of some type--pieces of the photo?
The holder sure didn't do this card any favors. Poor Nixie!

off gassing perhaps?

Good thing they gave it all that extra room.

Could be flood damage. I've heard the slabs aren't actually sealed, so being totally underwater might do that. I've seen a few T206s recently with obvious leakage and what looks like the beginnings of mold inside the slab.

the flip ink itself is easy to smudge. if it was under water, i would think the flip wouldn't look as nice as it does.

I don't know, but it looks like it could have been on "Deadliest Catch."

Thats a peach. Probably not submerged in water, just kept in a damp place is my guess, looks like mold.

PSA holders are NOT waterproof. Water got inside the holder and the surface dried against the plastic and when the card moved the surface of the card stayed on the plastic inside the holder.

Are SGC holders air tight? Poor PSA quality. Has anyone seen this with SGC? I should stick with SGC exclusively if only seen with PSA.

Hey Brian, it's a jelly.

I wonder if this was some sort of experiment. I agree that the flip should show water damage if the whole thing was submerged. The card, which was already graded "A" for paper loss, was one of several from the same consignor in this general condition. Maybe someone thought to test how waterproof the slabs were and dipped this Callahan for research purposes.
Who knows?

Doesn't PSA pride themselves in marketing their waterproof flips? To hell with the card but your flip will never exhibit water damage.

:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:
