I always like the candy box cards. Anyone else?

Never used to fully appreciate just how difficult 'candy box cards' can be. When you can find them with clean cut edges, they sure are cool looking cards.

Leon -- what's the deal with the shape of that Devore? I've seen that on other J=Ks. Is the ball player's head on those boxes used as a tab that folds into the 'lid' or something?

Oh...and if I may indulge, here's a recent pickup that I'm quite fond of:

Yes, the tabs were on one side of the box and is the side that went into the box.

Here is a different type ...

I have a few cards that I'm pretty sure fall into the "Candy Box cards" category and other cards that I'm just not sure about. Here's one that I'm not sure about the origins on, my e95 esque Ty Cobb. If you look close you can see slivers of red cardboard on the borders which tells us at least what color the box (or whatever this was cut off of) was.

According to Baseball Reference there were 2 Gus Williams. I don't know if the ears are a match though...

Are you sure that`s not the "great one" before Frankie Fontaine and the June Tailor Dancers ? Looks like it could be Jackie in his mid/late 20`s.

Pete, I trust you will agree that threads like these that Leon started are preferable to more T206 threads - right? :D

Jeff, your OB Cobb certainly trumps my OB Crawford! In fact, it is the second nicest looking card I have ever seen that is cut from a candy box! Now then, I may be prejudiced, but this Baseball Bats card of WaJo is the nicest: ;)
