Ebay user Bruingirl2007 sold fake vintage wax

Hi everyone

Just wanted to share some information with you. Over the summer I bought some 1978, 1979 and 1980 Topps wax packs from Bruingirl2007.

The story was that the seller had a bunch of vintage wax and didn't really know what she had and was selling it piece by piece on ebay. I received the packs. Unfortunately I didn't realize how easily these things could be faked. I also wasn't around for a couple of months after the packages arrived (because of family health issues) so I couldn't even get help from experts and request a refund.

Another ebay user contacted me and said to look closely at the gum and the folds in the wax. Sure enough the red flags were there. Then I submitted them to someone who is an expert with vintage wax who confirmed they are fake.

The seller stopped answering my requests for a refund. I am now taking it up with my credit card company, paypal and a lawyer. Just wanted to share my experience with you so you don't make the same mistake I did.

Like I said, I had no idea people were faking packs.
Thanks,
Eric

from what i read, PEPIS is like a 'top notch' addict on this stuff. He knows his wax packs.
I know i saw some on Heritage and read where Pepis warned us of some fakes.

There are a couple threads on the PSA/CollectorsUniverse Forums about Bruingirl and her fake packs too.

Thanks for the heads up. Until now, I could only have suspicions. I contacted her and offered to purchase complete boxes for more than she was getting three packs at a time. I just needed some photos of the backs of the packs. She said she was happy selling them the way she was. This made no sense, of course, so I always stayed away, wondering if I was missing out on a decent price week after week while her positive feedback piled up.

Wow, this one is funny. Makes me think these might have been faked a loooooong time ago.

What are the odds the National League #1, #2, and #3 for Rookie of the Year, somehow all end up on the top of the same pack?

It kind of turns my stomach when I look at their completed listings and see all that money that people paid for absolute junk. Sad.
