Stan Musial Autograph Help
1 Attachment(s)
All,
I recently picked this one up at the shriner's show in Wilmington MA from a dealer (name escapes me) that dealt strictly in vintage autos... He had some pretty impressive stuff and a boat load of album pages, GPC's, and Cuts... he actually showed me a beautiful 1952 Mantle GPC I liked this particular Musial because it resembled an atypical one that I had on watch (on ebay) from a very reputable dealer and board member... In any case, It was priced right and frankly it struck me as a little more appealing that a typical Stan, (i figured it for early until the seller told me it came out of a 1963 book so then I thought it was just hurried)... A member recently reached out to me with his thoughts on the piece that it may not be genuine... So I was hoping to get some opinions from other members on this one... Medium is a 4x6 album page, signature is in pencil Greatly appreciate the help! -Dave |

Dave -
I have no doubts it's good. I've seen similar pieces and am sure they are just rush jobs. Stan was "The Man" because he didn't turn people down when it came to autographs. Here's an in-person from 1963 for comparison, you can see some similarities. |
Thanks Moose
Any other opinions out there?

Looks good to me
A number of years ago my father had a late 50's/early 60's Cardinals yearbook that he had purchased signed by a few players. I recall the Musial was a hurried signature that looked much like this one. I believe this one to be authentic.

Stan the man
Many thanks guys. I really appreciate your opinions... I felt pretty good about it and am happy to have a hurried Stan in my collection! :D

in the same vein as the quick musial above (which I think is authentic)...what is everyone's thought on this quickie Musial?

I think both items are good early Musial. Here is one from the early 60shttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...b4ed25e83a.jpg

What stands out to me with this particular piece is the formation of the S, the vertical portion of the T flowing into the A, and the L at the end of his signature match up very well to his consistent signature that he used for the majority of his life. I am of the opinion that this too is a rushed, but authentic piece signed by Musial.

I have one very similar to it and have seen that same quick signature on authenticated scorecards that he probably signed in person while in a rush.

100% authentic as others have stated. A second reason for comfort... why would anyone fake a Stan Musial auto? All-time great, and possibly the most underrated player ever, but aside from Pete Rose is there any big name player who signed more?
